Unused Dialogue

A VERY noticeable trend in the Shivering Isles DLC is that often, an NPC's normal dialogue gets overridden by quest dialogue, making a good portion of their dialogue go unused. The majority of the dialogue listed here suffers from this problem.

Deepwallow#

A small gathering of three houses which house three paranoid people.

Beelei#

This new greeting for Beelei goes unheard due to her normal dialogue taking precedence.

Speaker

My Lord comes to Deepwallow to make it safe?

Dulphumph gro-Urgash#

The same thing goes for local Scalon fanatic Dulphumph.

Speaker

Lord Sheogorath, here in Deepwallow? May Scalon blood flow at your feet, Lord!

Fellmoor#

A small hamlet inhabited by a community of Water Root Pod farmers.

Cindanwe#

Cindanwe was supposed to be able to talk about local hunter Relan, but the topic and its related dialogue go unused in the final game.

Relan

He's the only one that pulls his weight. He kills the vermin and trespassers. He seldom kills things right away. It takes awhile. Sometimes he talks to them while cutting them open. But still, he gets the job done.

Kishashi#

Four greetings, showing her nature as a compulsive liar, go unused for Kishashi because her quest dialogue always takes precedence.

Speaker

Kishashi

I am Kishashi and Fellmoor is my domain. A queen, some would call me. But others will say that Cindanwe is in charge. Pah! Liars! Her majesty cannot tolerate a liar. It is I who makes the rules here. If you need anything, you come to me.

Kishashi

I am Kishashi, great hero of the northlands. I once single handedly held off an entire horde of Grummites.

Kishashi

Have you heard my story about the time I beat seven Orcs in a drinking contest? I'm famous for it!

Kishashi

I have died seven times, each more painful than the last. But still, I return! Would you like to hear about it?

Hale#

A small, dysfunctional community of artists.

Zoe Malene#

Zoe was supposed to greet you normally and explain her lack of inspiration, but her quest-related dialogue takes precedence at all times, making these two greetings go completely unheard.

Speaker

Zoe Malene

Zoe Malene's the name. Sorry I don't have much time to have a formal introduction, but I must get my latest painting finished! Not that it matters, really. I'm sure I'll lose my inspiration halfway through.

Zoe Malene

I don't have time for this; I must get back to my next catastrophic waste of time.

New Sheoth#

The denizens of the capital of the Shivering Isles.

Amiable Fanriene#

Amiable Fanriene has four greetings that go unused in the final game because his quest dialogue takes precedence.

Speaker

Amiable Fanriene

I'm Amiable Fanriene. Sorry, can't talk. Got to move on. It's not safe here. The walls are about to collapse. You'd best get moving, friend!

Amiable Fanriene

No time to chat. The ceiling looks like it's about to buckle. Got to move.

Amiable Fanriene

Sorry, friend. It's not safe here. Can't talk now. Got to move. Carefully. Don't want to bring the place down on our heads!

Amiable Fanriene

Perhaps my Lord will fortify the walls?

Caldana Monrius#

The Skooma-addicted Caldana was supposed to greet you differently at random times; unfortunately her first Skooma request takes precedence over all her other greetings, making sure they cannot be heard in-game.

Speaker

Caldana Monrius

Hello there, hello indeed! I'm Caldana Monrius. Well met! Help me out, friend. I need some skooma. Real bad. The good stuff. You know? Been dry for days. Got some skooma for me? I pay well. Yes, indeed... Sheogorath's palace is quite lovely this time of year. Sure, I can give you directions! Can't be too careful. Please, friend. I'm begging you. Help me out.

Caldana Monrius

Gimme the skooma! Don't hold out on me. I know you have it!

Caldana Monrius

I'll do anything to suck down some sweet Skooma. Anything. You got some?

Caldana Monrius

Pssst. Buddy. Gimme the skooma already. Quit playing around!

Caldana Monrius

My Lord? Are you aware we are suffering a Skooma shortage?

Pad-Ei#

The Choosy Beggar's best customer was supposed to be an insomniac, something that's never clear, due to his insomnia-related greetings getting overridden by another one of his greetings.

Speaker

Pad-Ei

What do you need, Sparkles? I'm always here. Can't afford to sleep. Can't be too careful.

Pad-Ei

So far, so good. If this world's a dream, I'm not waking up.

Split#

A small town where its inhabitants have a manic and a demented version of themselves living in it.

Atrabhi (Dementia)#

Like so many other NPCs in the Isles, Split's residents suffer from their greetings getting overridden by quest dialogue. Also of note is that the demented Atrabhi's unused greetings no longer have any assigned audio, except for her last one.

Speaker

Atrabhi

Welcome, I'm very glad to see you again. No really, why do you look so doubtful? Have people been lying about me again?

Atrabhi

Do you like visitng Split? It's a great place to live. The people are charming, and the weather is fantastic. No, really, it's true! Why would I lie?

Atrabhi

I have it on good authority that that bookworm, Atrabhi is a compulsive liar. My only fault is my naive trusting honesty. How can I help you, friend?

Atrabhi

Hello. My name isn't Atrabhi, I don't know why everyone calls me that. And I don't know where I get this reputation for being a liar, either.

Atrabhi

Is it my Lord Sheogorath? It can't be.

Atrabhi (Mania)#

The manic counterpart of Atrabhi suffers from the same problem.

Speaker

Atrabhi

Hello. I'm Atrabhi! People think I'm not friendly because I'm always reading. I enjoy a good conversation, though.

Atrabhi

Oh, hello. The real world just isn't as colorful as the ones in the story books, is it? Nor as truthful as the essays and histories. Alas.

Atrabhi

Hi there. You remind me of one of the characters from a story I've been reading. What can I do for you?

Atrabhi

Hi there. Not to be rude or anything, but I'm anxious to get back to my book.

Atrabhi

My Lord, there aren't enough pages in all the books in the world to hold your glory!

Horkvir Bear-Arm (Dementia)#

Demented lazybones Horkvir Bear-Arm has five greetings that go unused due to them getting overridden by his quest dialogue.

Horkvir Bear-Arm

Hello there. I suppose I should make the effort to introduce myself. I'm Horkvir Bear-Arm. I hope there isn't anything I can do for you.

Horkvir Bear-Arm

Are you sure you want me? If not, I'd rather just sit down a while, or maybe take a nap.

Horkvir Bear-Arm

Oh, hello. Can't you see I'm dozing off here? I was just daydreaming about how awful life is. I'd like to get back to that as soon as possible.

Horkvir Bear-Arm

I hope there isn't something you need from me. Being needed is worse than being forgotten, isn't it? I think so. Well, go on. Go on.

Horkvir Bear-Arm

Sheogorath. What trouble brings you out this way?

Horkvir Bear-Arm (Mania)#

His manic counterpart suffers the exact same problem.

Horkvir Bear-Arm

Hey there. I'm Horkvir Bear-Arm. They call me that because I once wrestled a bear, not because I work all day out in my garden without a shirt on.

Horkvir Bear-Arm

Hey there. I'm really busy. Got lots to do. So if you don't mind, make it quick.

Horkvir Bear-Arm

I guess I can spare you a minute. But not more than that. I've got to get back to work. Always more work to do than time to do it.

Horkvir Bear-Arm

Well, I guess I can take a short break. A short one, mind you. I have lots to do still.

Horkvir Bear-Arm

Greetings, Madgod. I normally don't stop to chit-chat, but it's truly an honor. What can I do for you?

Jastira Nanus (Dementia)#

These three additional greetings were recorded for the demented Jastira, but her quest and ingredient-related dialogue will always take precedence.

Speaker

Text

Jastira Nanus

Did you know I've counted over a 954 dead rats, 137 dead Grummites, and 12 dead men? I'm Jastira Nanus, by the way. I count corpses. I'm good at it.

Jastira Nanus

It's been so long since I've seen a corpse to count. Perhaps I'll have to make my own. Yep, that's what I'll have to do. Yes, can I help you?

Jastira Nanus

It's the Madgod Himself! My Lord! I've been keeping track of all the dead things for you. There's lots of dead things. I've counted them all!

Jastira Nanus (Mania)#

Similar to her Dementia counterpart, the manic Jastira Nanus also has three greetings that get overridden by her quest-related dialogue.

1, 2, 3. Hi, I'm Jastira Nanus... 4, 5, 6... As you can see, 7, 8, 9, 10... I'm a little busy counting at the moment... 11, 12, 13. Um. Oh, no. I lost count. Crap. Okay. Well, what do you want?

Jastira Nanus

1, 2, 3... is this important? 4, 5, 6... I'm counting... 8, 9. Oh, no. I missed 7. Speak up before I get mad!

Jastira Nanus

1, 3, 5, 7... my Lord! I... I don't know what to say. 8, 16, 4...

J'zidzo (Dementia)#

Five additional hateful greetings were recorded for J'zidzo's Dementia counterpart, but they also get overridden by his quest dialogue.

J'zidzo

Look. I don't know you. I don't really want to know you. If you insist on talking to me, go right ahead. But I won't promise to be nice.

J'zidzo

I thought I made it perfectly clear. I'm not interested in whatever you are selling, so if you don't mind...

J'zidzo

Don't you have something better to do than bother perfectly innocent people with your idiotic rambling? But if you insist, go right on ahead.

J'zidzo

I don't know where you got the impression that I want to talk with you. You must be kinda slow, huh?

J'zidzo

Lord Sheogorath, up off his throne and slumming it with us little folk, eh? Well, it's good to see you. What can I possibly do for you, My Lord?

J'zidzo (Mania)#

A total of 12 additional jokes were recorded for J’zidzo's Mania split personality, all of them were meant to be heard randomly when he greets you. Unfortunately, the quest dialogue always takes precedence, so the jokes cannot be heard in-game.

J'zidzo

A day without sunshine is like... night. Ahahaha!

J'zidzo

Why do wizards write books? Because they're good at spelling! Ahahaha!

J'zidzo

J'zidzo

Why are pirates, pirates? Because they just Arrrghhh! Oh ho ho ho!

J'zidzo

Did you hear about the two Argonians that walked into a tavern? The second one should have seen it coming. Ahaha!

J'zidzo

What did Sheogorath say to the man who refused to wear pants? "Come to the Shivering Isles, I can clearly see you're nuts!" Ahahahaha!

J'zidzo

Why did Sheogorath measure the Shivering Isles? Because he's the ruler! Ah ho ho ho!

J'zidzo

What do you call a Golden Saint who has his fingers stuck in his ears? Anything you like, he can't hear you. Ahahaha!

J'zidzo

I wouldn't be caught dead with a necrophiliac. Ahaha! On the other hand... you have different fingers. Oh ho ho ho!

J'zidzo

Madgod! I've been collecting jokes for you. I have thousands for you to listen to. Did you hear the one about the Grummite and the Heretic?

Urul gro-Agamph (Dementia)#

Six demented greetings were recorded for Urul, but his quest-related dialogue takes precedence at all times.

I'm Urul gro-Agamph. You shouldn't scare people like that. I don't care if you are a mean nasty wolf. It isn't nice. Okay, okay. Just don't hurt me!

Urul gro-Agamph

Yikes! Get away from me you foul beast! Somebody help! A mountain lion has gotten into the village!

Urul gro-Agamph

Don't eat me! For the love of Sheogorath! Please, don't eat me!

Urul gro-Agamph

Nice doggy. Good doggy. Don't hurt me, doggy. Doggy want a bone? No no, not my bones, not my bones! Eeek!

Urul gro-Agamph

I've never seen such a huge bird. Don't peck out my eyes! I mean it. Stay back, you!

Urul gro-Agamph

Don't eat me. DON'T EAT ME! By Sheogorath's beard, you're a mean looking one!

Urul gro-Agamph (Mania)#

Manic Urul sadly suffers the same fate as his demented counterpart, with his greetings also getting overridden.

You're certainly a cute little thing aren't you? Did you fly a long way? You did? Come here and perch on my shoulder for awhile.

Urul gro-Agamph

Hello there! You're a cute little thing, aren't you? A little baby bear. Did you get lost?

Urul gro-Agamph

I've never seen such colors on a cat before. You're the most beautiful thing I've ever seen!

Urul gro-Agamph

Are you a gruff little dog, are you? Well, come curl up here by my feet then.

Urul gro-Agamph

A God. My God. Wow. I thought little furry puppy dogs were the cutest thing in the world. But, look at you! I could just eat you up!

Lynda Carter's Absence

While most of Oblivion's voice cast returned in order to voice the inhabitants of the Shivering Isles, there is one notable exception. Lynda Carter, who provided the voice work for female Nords and Orcs in the base game, did not provide any voice work for new characters. There aren't even any female Nords or Orcs to be found in the DLC. This is quite odd however, as there are some characters of these races that were meant to be female originally, with their gender later being swapped.

One of New Sheoth's smiths, Dumag gro-Bonk, is an example of this. In his related script, there's a commented-out line reading This character was female and now is male, so the editorID and ref name are DumagGrABonk but name is Dumag grO-Bonk (gra/gro). Tove the Unrestful and Ushnar gro-Shadborgob also seem to have shared this gender change.
