Wes Johnson Duplicate Lines

This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.

To do:

  • Harrow
  • Etc.

Wes Johnson, who voices the male Imperials in the final game, did voice-over work for a TON of characters. It appears that he originally voiced all Breton males as well, before Ralph Cosham was cast to voice them separately. Not only that, but he seemingly did placeholder voice-over over work for characters of other races as well. This is all fine and well, but for some reason, all this dialogue was kept in the final game's files, leading to an ungodly amount of duplicate dialogue lines that just... sit there for no good reason. Hopefully Mr. Johnson got a nice paycheck for his work. If any of the NPCs mentioned here get their race changed to "Imperial", then they will use these lines, due to how Oblivion's voice banks work.

Alberic Litte#

Mages Guild member of the Chorrol branch.

Ambroise Canne#

Grape-grower and... Well, just listen. Notably, even Wes pronounces Fadus' surname correctly as Calidius, despite the subtitle being incorrect. He also reads "he'd be" as "he'll be".

Ambroise Canne

Fadus Calidus at the Fighters Guild also teaches Block, but he'd be the first to admit I'm his superior in every way.

Ancus Afranius#

Ancus is just an average citizen. However, despite his Imperial-sounding name, and the fact that he has an Imperial brother and sister, he's actually set up as a Breton in the final game.

Ancus Afranius

It's not that I'm lazy. I'm just not very ambitious. You can live comfortably in the city very cheaply. So why work yourself to death?

GREETING

Antoine Branck. I just work here. If you want a horse, go inside and talk to Isabeau.

Antoine Branck

Bravil

The Count was once a tournament champion. Now he's a loafer and skirt-chaser. And his son, Gellius, is a spoiled good-for-nothing skooma-sucker.

Antoine's horse-related dialogue was similarly recorded by Wes.

Basil Ernarde#

Quest giver at the Meridia shrine. For the first line of the shrine topic, Wes says "speak with you" unlike the finalized subtitle.

GREETING

What business do you have with Meridia, Lady of Infinite Energies?

Basil Ernarde

Shrine of Meridia

The spark of life is within you, and you are welcome here at Meridia's shrine. It is possible she will speak to you, under certain conditions.

Basil Ernarde

Shrine of Meridia

Leave an offering at this shrine. Meridia demands tribute in the form of the remains of her enemies, the undead.

Basil Ernarde

Shrine of Meridia

Meridia has spoken to you, and for that, you are blessed.

Basil Ernarde

HELLO

Blessings of the Lady upon you.

Basil Ernarde

GOODBYE

May the Lady guide your steps.

Beran Sintav#

Beran, similar to his brother Kastus, appears to belong to the Imperial Sintav clan, despite actually being a Breton. It's noted in the dialogue notes that Wes actually misreads the line and says "the gardens". This is possibly the reason for the line getting re-recorded with Ralph.

Damian Magius

Imperial City

Didier Aumilie#

Didier is just a random Anvil NPC in the final game, but he was originally Anvil's Arena Gatekeeper. His ref also implies that his original name was Imperius Vercetii, certainly a more Imperial-sounding name. It's possible that Didier's original greeting used this earlier name, as in the final game, his greeting is only recorded by Ralph Cosham, while his Anvil topic still has a recording by Wes left in the files. The greeting only has the REC note attched, showing it was indeed re-recorded at some point. One minor difference is that Wes reads "folks" in the first line, whereas it's written down as "folk" in the final subtitle.

Speaker

Dranas Llethro#

Dranas Llethro is, weirdly enough, a Dunmer man that lives at the Imperial City's Waterfront district. It's unknown why he has lines voiced by Wes.

Ernest Manis#

Proprietor of The Foaming Flask, inside of the Imperial City's Talos Plaza District. His greeting is mostly identical, with one major change. It seems that Ernest was originally an Imperial by the name of "Flavinius Venidius" instead. The last part of his Imperial City was changed to remove a reference to the Mages Guild. Also of note is the fact that his two Imperial City topic lines are numbered "1" and "3", implying a middle portion was removed entirely. Also also, the recording note attached to the new greeting contains a pronounciation guide for Ernest's last name, one which actor Ralph Cosham did not follow.

Kastus Sintav#

One of many Sintav family members inhabiting the Imperial City. Despite seemingly coming from a family of Imperials, Kastus is set up as a Breton. His lines might've been up for re-recording due to the fact that Wes mispronounces the character's name as "Kastav Sintav".

Yes. I must let someone else know. That night, I decided to follow Relfina. I wanted to see where she went on her walks.

Roland Jenseric

When she stopped in the garden, and Seridur stepped out of the shadows, my heart sank. Then, suddenly, he was upon her!

Roland Jenseric

She seemed entranced as he wrapped his arms around her and sank his teeth into her neck. I burst from my hiding place and attacked Seridur.

Roland Jenseric

He became startled for a moment and tossed Relfina aside. She fell to the ground and I heard a sickening crack as her head struck a stone.

Roland Jenseric

I was no equal to Seridur. He knocked me down in one quick movement. As I lost consciousness, I saw him laugh and then run away.

Roland Jenseric

Now I know why he didn't finish me that night. He wanted to cast suspicions on me instead.
