Test Creatures

Careful, you'll lose an eye.

This page or section needs more images.
There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.

These creatures were mostly made to just check if their meshes and textures worked properly, it seems like. They are listed here by their Editor ID or internal name, rather than their actual in-game name. This makes it easier to identify creatures that share a name or lack one, as well as make it easier to identify their purpose. The in-game names will still be listed, however.

Creatures

In the Creation Kit, this category groups all non-Daedra, non-Undead (and non-Horses) together.

TestBear#

Form ID: 000D10B6
Name: [Blank]

A basic level 1 brown bear with no loot whatsoever. Set to use the XXXTestCreatureBearExplore1 AI package, but it isn't placed anywhere.

TestBlackBear#

Form ID: 0000BCE0
Name: [Blank]

Same as above, but now a black bear. Uses the black bear combat style and skin.

TestJuanBoar#

Form ID: 0001E904
Name: [Blank]

A level 1 test boar, lacking loot and factions. It uses the CreatureBoarExplore package, but it isn't placed anywhere. It is, however, present in a leveled list called Dark10MuckValleyLL containing it and an instance of a rat. This leveled list goes unused but was meant to be used in Muck Valley Cavern during the Dark Brotherhood quest "Next of Kin". One of the quest targets, Sibylla Draconis, inhabits the cave. In the final game, standard leveled lists are placed in the cave, but not a quest-specific one, and a boar can never be found there due to not being included in said lists. Its Editor ID refers to Character and Creature Artist Juan Sanchez.

TestDeerBuck#

Form ID: 00000ADA
Name: [Blank]

A level 1 testing buck, carrying 1 portion of venison. It uses the TestDeerBuckExplore1 AI package.

TestDeerDoe#

Form ID: 00000E35
Name: [Blank]

Same as above, now a doe. Using the XXXTestDeerDoeExplore1 package.

TestCreaturesWolfTImber#

Form ID: 0003E44F
Name: Timber Wolf

A level 1 test Timber Wolf, carrying nothing, and not a part of any factions. It uses the AI package TestWolfWander. It gets used by two "objects", idle animations "DogAnims" and "WolfAnims", although as of writing I don't really know what exactly that entails.

GOBLINS#

TBA

FG0xxxImp#

Form ID: 000549BF
Name: Juicy Imp

While its prefix implies some kind of Fighters Guild questline connection, the "xxx" in its name denotes it as a testing NPC. This special Imp variety seemingly never made it out of its testing phase. It's set to be three levels above the player and is part of the CreatureFaction. It also carries the standard Imp Gall as well as an ingredient unique to it, "Imp Fluid". Internally known as FG0xxxImpFluid, it shares a unique Fighters Guild distinction. It uses the AI package shared with a couple of test creatures: XXXTestCreatureGoblinExplore1. It's possible that this Juicy Imp was meant to feature in the Fighters Guild quest "More Unfinished Business", in which you are tasked with collecting 10 samples of Imp Gall. However, normal Imps are used there instead.

TestLandDreugh#

Form ID: 0003352E
Name: LandDreugh

A test-related Land Dreugh. It's level 1 and contains no loot. It is part of the CreatureFaction, though. It uses the AI package DefaultLandDreughWander.

TestCreatureGroveMinotaur#

Form ID: 00028F4F
Name: Minotaur

A test Minotaur. Level 1, no factions, nor items. It uses the package CreatureGroveExplore which it shares with a couple of test creatures. An instance of this Minotaur is placed inside of the TestWorld. The "grove" part of its name refers to the testing grove, rather than to the similarly named used creature "Minotaur of the Grove".

TestCreatureMinotaur#

Form ID: 00028F4F
Name: Minotaur

The same as above, although this version carries an iron mace and uses the AI package XXXTestCreatureMinotaurExplore1. It's placed inside of the ToddDung cell.

TestCreatureMinotaurB#

Form ID: 00025005
Name: MinotaurB

Another level 1 Minotaur carrying nothing. It's only different in the AI package it uses: XXXTestCreatureMinotaurBExplore1.

TestCreatureMinotaurCombat#

Form ID: 0002D93B
Name: MinotaurCombatTest

If its name is anything to go off, this was a Minotaur made for combat testing. It carries an iron battleaxe but besides that has nothing noteworthy. It doesn't even have an AI package.

TestCreatureMinotaurLord#

Form ID: 00025006
Name: Hugh'sMinotaurLord

It carries an iron warhammer and is the only Minotaur Lord testing variety. Its name also refers to Character and Creature Artist Hugh Riley.

TestDemoMinotaur#

Form ID: 0002C4DE
Name: Minotaur

Yet another level 1 Minotaur carrying nothing. It was related to some sort of demo and has a unique script called DemoMinotaur attached. The scripting makes the Minotaur choose package based on time passed via timer. However, all of the code is commented out, and a developer added in the script reads that it's "no longer used". The Minotaur uses two unique packages: DemoMinotaurTravel1 and DemoMinotaurTravel2. Despite their names, they're actually set up as "Wander" packages instead of "Travel" packages.

TestKurtMinotaur#

Form ID: 00014838
Name: Minotaur

The final unremarkable level 1 Minotaur. Its Editor ID refers to developer Kurt Kuhlmann. It uses an AI package by the name of ZooTestDefaultWander. This package is used by other test creatures bearing Kurt's name, as well as all varieties of "Minotaur of the Grove" used in the final game.

TestJuanMuontainLion#

Form ID: 0000A2AF
Name: MuontainLion

A level 1 Mountain Lion carrying nothing. It uses the (correctly-spelled) AI package testJuanMountainLion. This Mountain Lion was another one of Juan's creations.

TestKurtMountainLion#

Form ID: 00014835
Name: MuontainLion

Largely identical to the one above, although this Mountain Lion is part of the CreatureFaction. This one belong to Kurt and reuses the zoo package mentioned above.

TestMountainLion#

Form ID: 0000BC4E
Name: Mountain Lion

The third and final test-related Mountain Lion variety. It's part of the CreatureFaction but carries nothing and has no AI packages.

TestCreatureMudCrab#

Form ID: 000BB9DB
Name: Mud Crab

A test variant of the Mud Crab, generally pretty close to its final game ietration. The only differences being that this version is only part of the CreatureFaction, whereas the final game variant is also part of the Daedra, Dremora, Vampire, and Undead factions. Also, this test version has the aaaCreatureExterior1500 and aaaCreatureInterior512 packages, whereas the finalized Mud Crab uses aaaCreatureInteriorSwims512 and aaaCreatureExteriorSwims1500 packages.

TestCreatureMudCrab12#

Form ID: 00091FC4
Name: Mud Crab

Exactly the same as above, it's unknown what the "12" is meant to denote.

TestBasementRat#

Form ID: 0002DEF2
Name: Rat

A testing Rat conditioned to be ten levels below the player. It carries nothing and is not part of any factions. It uses a package called testwaitForPlayer. For some reason, one instance of this test creature is placed inside of Lazare Milvan's Basement in Skingrad.

TestCreatureGroveRat#

Form ID: 00028CA2
Name: Rat

A standard level 1 test Rat. It has no items nor factions. It uses the package RatGroveExplore. Four of these are placed inside the "RatGrove" inside of the TestWorld, hence the "Grove" in their Editor ID.

TestCreatureRat#

Form ID: 000023CF
Name: Rat

Same as above, although this version isn't actually placed anywhere and it uses the AI package XXXTestCreatureRatExplore1.

TestToddRat#

Form ID: 0002ADD3
Name: Rat

This Rat is a level 1 test variant, part of the CreatureFaction. Its name refers to developer Todd Howard. Most notbaly, it uses the combat style "AggresiveForwardPower100" instead of the usual "DefaultRat". One instance of it is present in the wilderness of the Toddland worldspace.

TestCreatureGroveScamp#

Form ID: 00028F5B
Name: Scamp

A level 1 Scamp. It uses the CreatureGroveExplore. Most notably, this Scamp is classified as a "Creature", whereas Scamps in the final game are classified as "Daedra" instead. One instance of this Scamp is placed inside of the TestWorld.

TestCreatureScamp#

Form ID: 00002366
Name: Scamp

Same as above, also sharing the same "Creature" distinction. This variant, however, isn't placed anywhere and uses the AI package XXXTestCreatureScampExplore1.

Testsheep#

Form ID: 000025740
Name: Tod

A level 1 Sheep with nothing else going for it. It uses the AI package XXXTestsheepExplore1. Presumably Tod the sheep takes its name from developer Todd Howard.

TestCreatureSlaughterfish#

Form ID: 000025740
Name: [Blank]

A level 1 test Slaughterfish. It's part of the CreatureFaction and uses the AI package TestSlaughterfishWander.

TestCreatureSpiderDaedra#

Form ID: 0009DB09
Name: [Blank]

A Spider Daedra test variety. Like the aforementioned Scamps, this test variety is classified as a "Creature" instead of a "Daedra". It's level 1, part of the CreatureFaction and uses the AI package TestSpiderDaedraWander.

MarkTestSpriggan#

Form ID: 0009DB09
Name: Spriggan

This Sprigan is quite similar to the finalized variant, sharing the standard level of 11 and being part of the CreatureFaction. The test version, however, lacks the Taproot item and the three Spriggan healing spells. It does use the bear summon, curse, and resistances spells. Most interestingly, this test variety has a script attached called sprigscript. With this script, the Spriggan would have been resurrected twice upon death, effectively requiring you to kill it three times. This is the same behavior as in their first appearance in the Bloodmoon DLC for Morrowind. The finalized Spriggan does not exhibit this behavior. The "Mark" mentioned is presumably Quest Designer Mark Nelson.

TestCreaturesStormAtronach#

Form ID: 00047AEA
Name: Storm Atronach

A test variant of the Storm Atronach. It shares the finalized counterpart's base level of 17. However, this version is classified as a "Creature" rather than as a "Daedra". This version is part of the CreatureFaction, unlike the final variant's ConjurerFaction and DaedraFaction. This version also does not carry void salts. It also lacks the finalized variant's shock resist ability. It uses the TestStrormAtronachWander AI package.

TestCreaturesStormAtronachX#

Form ID: 0003C783
Name: Storm Atronach

Identical to the version above.

TestBruceTroll#

Form ID: 00065D65
Name: Troll Regen A level 6 test variant of the Troll. It is part of the CreatureFaction and carries a portion of Troll Fat and random loot, like its final game counterpart. The Troll is presumably named for its regeneration ability. Besides its standard Troll Abilities, it also uses the ability "Troll Regeneration". This makes him regenerate one point of health. Why exactly the Troll knows this in addition to its standard abilities, which already include a regeneration ability is unknown (for 2 points, rather than 1). Presumably, this test creature was made before the Troll abilities included both the fire weakness and health regeneration. Its Editor ID also bears Bruce Nesmith's name. It uses the AI packages aaaCreatureExterior1500 and aaaCreatureInterior512 like its finalized variant.

TestHughsTestTroll01#

Form ID: 00005619
Name: Troll A seemingly very early test Troll. Besides being part of the CreatureFaction, it has nothing going for it. It's level 1, lacks an inventory and any sort of abilities. Its Editor ID bears Hugh Riley's name and it uses the AI package XXXTestCreatureTrollExplore02.

TestHughsTestTroll02#

Form ID: 00022F59
Name: Troll Besides the different IDs, this creature's identical to the first variant.

TestHughsTestTroll03#

Form ID: 00022F5A
Name: Troll Besides the different IDs, this creature's identical to the first variant.

TestToddTroll#

Form ID: 0002ADD2
Name: Troll Basically a finalized Troll, only lacking the random loot in his inventory. It uses the combat style "SpecialTrollPowerAttacker" and one instance of it is placed in the wilderness of the Toddland world. It uses the AI package TWander like some other finalized creatures. It bears Todd Howard's name in its Editor ID.

TestTrollKurt#

Form ID: 00014849
Name: Troll

Identical to Hugh's test Trolls. Only difference being it uses the ZooTestDefaultWander AI package. It bears Kurt Kuhlmann's name in its Editor ID.

TestWillOTheWisp#

Form ID: 0003C783
Name: Will-o-the-Wisp

A level 1 test variant of the Will-o-the-Wisp. While its level differs with its finalized counterpart, its factions and inventory are identical. It uses an AI package by the name of WillOWispWander. The test variant also has the normal resistances ability, as well as a test spell called "Test Fire Damage Touch". This spell bears the Editor ID of TestTouch, so it presumably was a general test of On Touch spells. Seeing as the Will-o-the-Wisp's final spells are both on touch, this was likely done as a test. The spell is shared with test Xivilai, presumably as an earlier version of their "Heat Blast" spell.

ZOMBIES#

TBA

Daedra

This category is pretty self-explanatory.

TestCreatureDaedroths#

Form ID: 00002368
Name: Daedroth

A level 14 Daedroth test variant, not part of any factions and not carrying anything. Uses the AI package XXXTestCreatureDaedrothsExplore1.

TestCreatureGroveDaedroth#

Form ID: 00028F5D
Name: Daedroth

Technically identical to the Daedroth above, although this one is marked to be able to swim, which the average Daedroth isn't. Animations for this don't exist either, so this may very well be an accident rather than a leftover of something intended. One instance of this creature is placed in the TestWorld, as can be learned from the "grove" in his name as well. It uses the CreatureGroveExplore AI package.

TestToddDaedroth#

Form ID: 0001C642
Name: Daedroth

Once more identical to the first Daedroth above on a technical level. It's named after Todd Howard, and one instance of this creature is placed in the cell ToddDung. It uses the XXXTestToddDaedrothExplore1 AI package.

TestCreatureFlameAtronach#

Form ID: 0003C267
Name: FlameAtronach

A test variant for Flame Atronachs. It's level 7, carries nothing, and is part of the CreatureFaction. It uses the AI package XXXTestCreatureGoblinExplore1.

TestCreatureFrostAtronach#

Form ID: 000904E4
Name: FrostAtronachHugh01

A test variant of the Frost Atronach. It's level 1, carries nothing and is part of the CreatureFaction. Its Editor ID bears developer Hugh Riley's name.

TestMehrunesDagonSkeleton#

Form ID: 0009074E
Name: Mehrunes Dagon

A test variant of the Mehrunes Dagon creature, the final boss. Its final variant has its own category defined as "Giant", rather than being a "Daedra". It's level 1, carries nothing and is part of the CreatureFaction. If its name is to be believed, this variant was made simply to test the creature's skeleton, presumably for rigging.

TestScampDefaultCreature#

Form ID: 0009074E
Name: ScampDefault

Testing variant of the Scamp. It's level 1, carries nothing, and is part of the CreatureFaction. It uses the AI package ScampDefaultWorld.

MQ07TestXivilaiAmorah#

Form ID: 0003484A
Name: Xivilai Amorah

Evidently a test variant of a unique Xivilai originally meant to be encountered during the seventh Main Quest. In the final game, the quest Spies holds this slot, but this creature likely would've appeared in a different quest altogether, which would later be replaced by Spies. This Xivilai is leveled to be 10 levels above the player, but besides this and its name, it has nothing unique about it. A finalized variant did not make it into the final game, although named Xivilai would appear in the fifteenth Main Quest, Paradise.

TestCreatureXivilai01#

Form ID: 0009074E
Name: TestCreatureXivilaiHugh01

A test Xivilai bearing Hugh Riley's name in its Editor ID. It's level 1, carries nothing, and is part of the CreatureFaction. It also knows the test variants of the spells Fireball, Test Self Restore and Test Fire Damage Touch. One instance of this creature is placed in the cell TestParadiseCave.

TestCreatureXivilai02#

Form ID: 0009074E
Name: TestCreatureXivilaiHugh02

A second test Xivilai. This one has the "Weapons & Shield" box checked and uses the combat style "SpecialXivilaiTwoHand" rather than "DefaultXivilai". In accordance to this, he carries a Claymore of Disintegration. Otherwise he's identical to the previous iteration.

Horse

'Neigh said.

TestHorseSkeleton#

Form ID: 0009074E
Name: Horse

A level 1 horse not part of any factions and not carrying anything. Again, another skeleton test. One instance is placed outside the tavern in the cell ToodTestForestTavern, a part of the Toddland world.

Humanoid

This category contains just two NPCs, the easter egg character "Nath Dyer" and a test variant of the Spriggan. Nath Dyer is a zombie corpse and should normally be categorized under "Undead", while the Spriggan is normally categorized under "Creatures", as can be observed above.

TestCreatureSpriggan#

Form ID: 00054667
Name: Spriggan

The Spriggan carries nothing, is part of the CreatureFaction and is set to level 11. It knows the Spriggan's Curse spell and has the Weakness to Fire "ability". It uses the SprigganWander AI package.
