Temporary GUI Images#
|
USRDIR/archives/lbp_archive.arc/gui/temporary/ contains several low resolution stickers and GUI icons. The most interesting of the lot is background.mip, a screenshot of a Gardens themed level from what appears to be an early point of development.
Calibration Screens#

USRDIR/archives/lbp_archive.arc/textures/calibration/ contains four screen calibration images, branded with the THX logo and copyright text from Lucasfilm LTD.
Popit Icons#
USRDIR/archives/lbp_archive.arc/gui/popit/static_icons/ contains handful of unused Popit icons. All of the icons in this directory (including the used ones) have accompanying .meta.biff files containing metadata which would've appeared in-game, including translated names, descriptions, and authors.

Early Sticker Switch Texture#
Unused |
Used |
|---|---|
USRDIR/archives/lbp_archive.arc/meshes/gadgets/switches/sticker_switch/sticker_switch_diffuse.mip is an early texture for the Sticker Switch, more closely resembling its PS3 counterpart. This was used in early versions, but was replaced with a simplified texture to make it easier to discern at the PSP's lower screen resolution.
Original Shockbomb Sticker#
The explosive sticker on both Impact and Trigger Shockbombs was originally coloured red to match the PS3 game's Impact and Trigger Explosives; they were changed to blue later in development, but remnants of the original red sticker can still be found in the files.

USRDIR/archives/lbp_archive.arc/meshes/gadgets/explosives/banger/banger_sticker.mip is an isolated version of the sticker. In the same directory, banger_dirt.mip is a variant of the Impact Shockbomb's texture that lacks the sticker altogether, suggesting the sticker was once a separate mesh.
USRDIR/archives/lbp_archive.arc/meshes/gadgets/explosives/tnt/tnt_diffuse.mip is an early version of the Trigger Shockbomb's texture. Although it has the red sticker, it is not mapped correctly when applied to the model.
Unused Costumes#
Burkha#

USRDIR/archives/lbp_archive.arc/meshes/costumes/desert/burkha/ contains models for a black burqa. It is comprised of two costume pieces: one for the head, and one for the torso.
Surfer Swim Suit#

USRDIR/archives/lbp_archive.arc/meshes/costumes/common/surfer/torso.model is a turquoise swim suit adorned with the Australian flag, intended to be used in conjunction with the other pieces in the same directory. While the hair, glasses and flip flops are given out in Walkabout (or are included as part of the player's starting inventory), the swim suit goes entirely unused.
The render on the left shows Sackboy wearing all of the surfer pieces, including the unused swim suit.
Launch Day Egg#

USRDIR/archives/lbp_archive.arc/meshes/costumes/launchday/launch_egg/ contains assets for a cracked egg shell costume with "09" written on it. Its filename indicates that it was meant to be released for a limited time to commemorate the game's launch, similar to the Week 1 T-Shirts from the other LittleBigPlanet games.

USRDIR/archives/lbp_archive.arc/meshes/costumes/common/clown/ contains an early version of the Clown costume from the Sack Circus Extravaganza DLC. Compared to the final version, the textures are slightly desaturated, the blue top hat is bigger, the red nose has a lower polygon count, the shoes are straightened, and the orange overalls are hollow.
Materials#
USRDIR/archives/lbp_archive.arc/textures/sackboymaterials/ contains various unused Sackboy materials with varying degrees of polish. Four of them are based on other PlayStation franchises (specifically Ape Escape, Ratchet & Clank, and God of War) although no accompanying costume pieces appear to exist, suggesting that plans for these outfits were dropped early on.

Software Showcase#
USRDIR/archives/lbp_archive.arc/lbpbackgrounds/softwareshowcase contains files for a background referred to as "Software Showcase". It is comprised of two models: the main environment (softwareshowcasenobrick.model) and a repeating brick floor (softwareshowbrick.model). The background is split into two halves, separated by paper clouds and a body of water; the left half is a recreation of The Gardens from the PS3 game, while the right half is based on The Orient's background from this game.

Panda Object Textures#
Original |
Fixed |
|---|---|
![]() |
![]() |
The Panda object from The Orient has incorrect textures. The directory containing its model (USRDIR/archives/lbp_archive.arc/meshes/prefabs/china/panda/) houses three textures: one for the panda's body, straw hat, and bamboo. However, the body texture is mistakenly applied to all three components in-game, which results in the panda's face being tiled across the straw hat, and the bamboo appearing black-and-white. Above are a pair of renders showing what the panda looks like normally, versus its intended appearance.
The panda that appears in the unused Software Showcase background (from which this object's model originates) does not have this issue.

In development, the third main level in The Bazaar was named "High on Rugs", and the second side level in The Carnival was named "Brazilian Whacks"; these names were kept for the European release, but changed to "Rugs and Kisses" and "Golissimo!" respectively for the North American version.

v2.05 |
|---|---|
- In the initial release of the game, buried in USRDIR/archives/lbp_archive.arc/gui/popit/static_icons/creature_eye.16.mip was an icon for the Walker, an unused creature from the PS3 game. In reality this icon belonged to the Magic Eye, which was not available in the base game. When Game Update 2.05 rolled out, Magic Eyes were added to the Tools Bag, and its icon was changed accordingly.
