Frises (Thomson MO, Thomson TO)

Frises is a little educational pattern-creation program. A version for the EXL 100 also exists.

The beginning of FRISE.BAS defines three parameters: NF, FLF, and MAXF. Each of these lines also contain a commented section which notes what they do:

NF=0  : ' Numero de frise en cours
FLF=0 : ' Flag de frise en cours
MAXF=8:' Nombre max de frises

Number of current pattern
Flag of current pattern
Maximum number of patterns

Furthermore, Line 11850 is also commented out, but doesn't appear to be code. "Machine" here refers to the mirroring types used by the patterns.

Unused Code#

There are many more commented lines in FRISE.BAS:

  • Lines 1150 to 1320 contain code for a screen of patterns. Uncommenting and redirecting to it doesn't seem to do anything, however.

1200 ' Une page de frises

1310 'A$=INKEY$:IF A$="" THEN 1310
1320 'IF A$="" THEN 1300
  • Uncommenting Line 2130 shows a black "suite" text over a white background in the pattern editor screen.frisesTHOMSON-suite.png

'COLOR 0,7:LOCATE 29,23:ATTRB 1,1:PRINT "suite";

  • Uncommenting Lines 7110 and 7120 toggles a new option in the main menu, in which pressing M would allow the player to modify an already-existing pattern, but the code to access it no longer exists. Notably, the button text is white over a magenta background, whereas the others are red over a green background.

7110 'LOCATE 0,13
7120 'PRINT "   Veux-tu modifier une frise";:ATTRB 1,1:COLOR 7,5:PRINT "M":ATTRB 0,0:COLOR 3,0

  • Lines 9470 to 9490, which are part of the pattern updating routine of the pattern editor, are commented out. Uncommenting them made no visible difference.

9470 ' FOR I=0 TO 3
9480 ' DEFGR$(I)=M%(NF,I,0),M%(NF,I,1),M%(NF,I,2),M%(NF,I,3),M%(NF,I,4),M%(NF,I,5),M%(NF,I,6),M%(NF,I,7)
