Banjo-Pilot spent most of its development as Diddy Kong Pilot, a GBA sequel to Diddy Kong Racing. It remained in this form for a few months following Microsoft's acquisition of Rare, before the decision was made to rebrand it as a Banjo game.

Diddy Kong Pilot 2001Dated July 9, 2001. The earliest build, back when the game was meant to be a sequel to Diddy Kong Racing. Bears a strong resemblance to the Space World 2001 demo.
Diddy Kong Pilot 2003Dated February 19, 2003. Quite similar to the final, but still using the Donkey Kong license.
2004 Voxel Engine BuildDated June 2004. Completely reworked from the previous build, with a different track rendering engine.
29-09-04 BuildDated September 29, 2004. A near-final build, based on the 2003 iteration of Diddy Kong Racing due to the voxel engine having been rejected.|
