Full Unlock Code#

Perfect Cherry Blossom features a variation of the code that was previously featured in the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.

On the Hard Mode records screen, hold either Shift or Ctrl and press Up three times, D two times, Down two times, and Q three times. If done correctly, you'll hear the 1up sound, and the Extra and Phantasm Stages and all practice stages will be unlocked for all characters, shot types, and difficulty levels.

Unused Stage Names#

Perfect Cherry Blossom was originally going to have stage names similar to the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. These ended up being scrapped early on but they include some weird oddities.

Unused Graphics and Oddities#

Sprites#

Present in the sprite files are sprites for Koakuma and Patchouli from the previous game, Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. These are leftovers from said game since their stage graphic was used as a placeholder for making character sprites.

Unused sprite

Used sprite

An unused version of the extra stage sprite is in the files. It was likely a result of the same sprite sheet being included in Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and being translated very early in development.

Graphics#

While not unused, the graphic for the door to the Netherworld in Stage 4 is much larger than what appears in game. The source of the image comes from the stock photo CD "Ulead Pick-a-Photo 05 - Oriental Antiques and Customs", which ZUN used to source many other textures throughout the series.

Gameplay Oddity#

After Alice's first spell, she will start a nonspell with seemingly no health (as there's no white color on the healthbar) that ends after roughly 5 seconds (out of 98 on timer). However, this is not because of the pattern actually taking damage, as it will do this even without shooting. This is possibly a bug, as this behaviour wasn't present in the early trial versions.

Music Oddities#

Extracting the game's MIDI soundtrack reveals several oddities:

  • th07_01.mid (Stage 1 theme) Has SC-88Pro midi data that matches closer to Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. This information confirms that this song was originally written with the EoSD Instruments, as well as composed with ZUN's old daw known as Single Song Writer. As he properly got a bundle of Cubase SX 1 in 2002 which included Edirol Super Quartet.
  • th07_06.mid (Stage 3 theme)'s Full midi loops for over 15 Minutes. It is unknown why it does this
  • th07_07.mid (Alice's Theme)'s Drum's loops for over 14 Minutes. It is also unknown why.
  • th07_10.mid (Stage 5 Theme) is completely normal. But the Ghostly Field Club version is named th07_10b.mid.
  • Multiple songs including th07_06.mid, th07_07.mid, and th07_10.mid All are lacking a proper SC-88Pro title. All three of these midi's have weird oddities, but its unknown why.
  • Yuyuko's final theme is named th07_13b.mid. th07_14.mid is instead assigned to the ending theme.
