Hello Neighbor

This article has a talk page!
view on tcrf.net

Hello Neighbor is a stealth horror game about sneaking into your neighbor's house and figuring out what he's hiding in the basement. Notable for having an "advanced" AI that learns from your actions.

The game was released to both critical and commercial acclaim and dismay, launching a franchise.

Sub-Pages#

Unused/Test Widgets#

BPW_TestSplash#

A test for the developer credits when booting up the game. All it contains is the words "MainMenu" written in Quikhand. Closes the editor due to the associated file not being present.

BPW_HN_Menu#

A basic debug menu, when modded back into the full game, these buttons all work.

BPW_ScreenText#

Text. On a screen.

Unused Audio#

Alpha 2 Leftovers#

Leftovers from Alpha 2.

ThingBGMusicTest#

Test music for the finale's theme.

snakes_hiss#

A snake hissing.

Sound Effects#

Theodore#

"Hello" SFX

These were intended to be used in the equally as unused Phone Animations.

Unused Particles#

Particle Name

Image

Description

P_Dirt

N/A

This has no texture, but is presumed to have been particles for when running on dirt.

P_Firework

An alternate set of particles for the Fireworks from Alpha 2.

Old Fire

All of the Old Art fire particles still exist.

Tomato_2

Weird tomato splat. This uses the more realistic splat found in the resources folder.

Tomato_Blow

A particle of the more realistic splat sparking up before fading away.

P_Explosion_Bomb2

Just like Tomato_2, this again uses the more realistic splat found in the resources folder.

Unused Maps#

Fear Factory#

Found in the Betas, and leftover in the final game, this map was how you were originally meant to obtain the Power Throw ability, however the developers deemed the level "unfun" and "repetitive" and as such it was canned and power throwing was made a default ability.

Act1_BaseMent_Test#

Glitching into the Act 2 Basement (or loading into it via the Developer Console) spawns you in this map that uses BPW_ScreenText, and has nothing else.

Unused Textures/Graphics#

buy_list_dif

A texture of a buy list, showcasing the items needed to complete Fear Supermarket. Perhaps at one point this was used to show the items instead of looking in the other mannequins' carts.

E_1

A really low-quality E Key icon. The normal one is 268×264px, while this one is 57×52px.

loading_clock

While this was originally used on launch, this was replaced with the Error World when the Hide & Seek loading screen was brought over.

Space_1

A placeholder Space Key.

Object Icons#

Various unused icons.

Missing Poster

Letter

Tomato

Hammer

Calendar

Suitcase

Stone

Rubix Cube

Something to note, is that the Missing Poster is used in-game, however it's impossible to be seen without removing the Police Station mesh, as it's hitbox blocks the object from being picked up, and while technically not unused, the Letter's icon can only be seen when pressing "Restart" during cutscene after picking up said Letter.

Controls Graphics#

PS4 (Placeholder)#

A placeholder for the PS4 Controller diagram in the Options Menu.

PC Tool-Tip#

This was previously used in the PC builds up until Error World, when they added dynamic key rebinding.

PS4 Trap Icons#

This was meant to replace the Icons originally added in Alpha 2, however this was never implemented.

Creators#

A placeholder image for the Credits screen, seen at the end of Alpha 4, Beta 1, Beta 2, and Beta 3, this specific image can also be seen in some early builds upon completing the game.

Unused Meshes#

Windmill#

An old art version of the windmill seen in Act 3.

Old

New

test_backhouse#

Test for the backhouse in Act Finale.

Final

HN-PrototypeBackhouse.png HN-FinalBackhouse.png

Unused Achievement#

In the Main Map for Beta 3, there is an Achievement Box around the Raven Brooks Memorial Statue. It is unknown why this was cut, but it was probably not to flood the game with Out of Bounds achievements, as the final game has a lot of them.

Unused Player Abilities / Item Mechanics#

Player#

"Emissive" Ability#

Not much is known much about this.

All that is known at the moment is that there may have been a ability where Nicky would emit a small light, allowing you to see without a flashlight.

This shows up as a player ability in the HN Modkit, enabling the ability does nothing.

"BinocularMark"#

This was used in Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek, however it can be activated in a buggy broken state in the Hello Neighbor Modkit, making the Binoculars float instead of marking it when you try to activate it.

Objects#

Radio#

In the Radio Blueprint, there is a unused Point Light and code for turning it on/off, reconnecting the code together, makes it so when the Radio is turned on, a light goes on, and when its off, the light goes off, pretty self-explanatory.

Oddly enough, in the updated Mobile versions of this game, spam-clicking the power button of the Radio while dropping it can cause this light to turn on.

Unused Cinematics#

"Trailer_1"#

Watch on YouTube

Begins with Nicky sitting in his apartment watching TV before knocking on his door is heard, the knocking speeds up and gets more intense, as a plate (presumably a placeholder for a horseshoe) falls off of his door, Nicky runs and sets a bear trap in front of his door, before attempting to jump out of his window and getting caught by Theodore. It's possible this would have been used as part of the Beta trailer, showing off the apartments for the first time.

Revisional Changes#

Console Trophies#

Due to revisions (and Sony's rules on Copyright probably playing a part in it), Some achievement icons were changed, however Space Jam and Wrong Place to Bury's Achievement icons remain the same on Xbox, edited icons include:

Name

Icon (New)

Icon (PC)

Wrong Place to Bury

Up, Up!

Space Jam

Is She Ok??

No More Fears

Watch Your Head!

Xbox Achievement Names#

Xbox's achievements still use the old names from the Beta, these are:

Xbox Name

PC Name

Double Fun

Up, Up!

Neighbor MD

Is She Ok??

No Digging!

Wrong Place to Bury

Lets Go Deeper

I Had No Choice!

Like Father Like Son

No More Fears

The Descriptions remain the same as well.

Name

Description

New Desc.

Overcome the fear of darkness

Leap of Faith In the Closet

ICU there

You Should Check Her State

Learn to look deeper

Wrong time wrong place

Defeat your past

Defeat your fear

"Neighbor MD" seems to have been a reference to the show House M.D., as it had a description of "ICU There" and used a cane as its icon.

Platform Versions#

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: Confirm this information at some point lol
