Downloadable Content

This is a sub-page of Duke Nukem Forever.

Oh dear, I do believe I have the vapors.
This page contains content that is not safe for work or other locations with the potential for personal embarrassment.
Such as:
Audio of Duke (implied to be) getting a B.J. from a donkey.

To do:
Might be a good idea to split this page in two if it gets too big/messy

  • There is a fair bit of unused audio in The Doctor Who Cloned Me.
    • There are more sounds associated with the cut donkey joke.
    • There are multiple lines of characters like Graves, Proton and Dr. Valencia referring to a "Dr. Smith" character, which is just an alias of Proton.
    • Seemingly some unused EDF voices.
    • Possibly more.
  • There are leftovers from the Hail to the Icons maps in The Doctor who Cloned Me found in DLC03_smt_decorations/Nursery intended for the Daycare in Meat Grinder (the cloud cutouts from 2Forts1Bridge and several objects from the Sandbox map are used).
  • Reference to an Unreal Scripting file in DLC03_SoundConfig.cvp.
  • Internal naming oddities.

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically:

  • Are the .jpn files actually used?
  • Could the Doctor who Cloned Me maps not being numbered in order of appearance possibly indicate an earlier version of the campaign?
  • The drinkable Hot Sauce from In Security seems to use two different set of textures; the model placed on the desk seems to use textures from the TRays_Hotsauce folder whereas the model used during the drinking animations seems to use textures from the hot_sauce folder. Double check that this is the case.
  • Seemingly unused animations for the karaoke machine at The Burning Bush. There's also Duke lines for interacting with it. Double check these are unused.

Duke Nukem Forever would see two DLCs released after the game's release in 2011; Hail to the Icons Parody Pack and The Doctor Who Cloned Me.

In addition to these two, there was also a DLC given for preordering the game called Duke's Big Package, but all it did was enable some on-disc content in-game.

Duke's Big Package

To do:

  • One of the bonuses was 6 shirt designs, one of which is of the retailer that you had preordered from. Get rips of the graphics and some pictures of these designs in-game.
  • Seems to be unused duplicates of some of the promo shirt designs.

Duke's Big Package is a DLC given for preordering the game, all it did was enable some on-disc content in-game.

Internal Name#

The DLC is internally referred to as "DNF_Preorder". The North American version is suffixed "_NA", and the international version is suffixed "_Other".

Oddities#

The graphic used for the Triptych Games logo design is misspelt as duke_promo_d_Triptyeh.dds.

Hail to the Icons Parody Pack

Hail to the Icons Parody Pack is the first DLC for the game, released on October 11th, 2011. It added four new maps and weapons to the multiplayer that are references and parodies (hence the name) of other popular first-person shooters. Pretty great for a game's online scene that is all but dead nowadays!

Internal Names#

The DLC is internally referred to as "DLC01".

.jpn Text Differences#

DLC01_game.jpn appears to feature early/alternative names of things in the DLC. Some differences include:

  • The DFG is referred to as "B-Fee G".
  • The Sticky Bomb is referred to as "Poop Bomb".
  • There is a mutator called "Naughty", what this mutator is supposed to do is not certain.
[MP_BFGPickup]

DLC_DLC01_Maps.int

DLC01_DM-Town=A war ravaged foreign land that's mysteriously devoid of saturated colors.
DLC01_DM-Town=Warfare on a modern battlefield, where soldiers earn medals and honor.

Mark Skelton's Duke Design#

Mark Skelton's Duke Design strikes again! As is with the base game, some assets in the DLC are rather obviously based on an earlier design of Duke by former artist Mark Skelton.

The Doctor Who Cloned Me

The Doctor Who Cloned Me is the second (although it originally wasn't intended to be) and final DLC of Duke Nukem Forever, released on December 13th, 2011. Packing a new single-player campaign loaded with new weapons, vehicles alongside four new multiplayer maps. It sees a lot of concepts and ideas through various stages of development like Area 51 as a location and the return of Doctor Proton implemented.

Unused Animations#

To do:
Noesis can't open this DLC's animation dats for whatever reason. These have been quickly grabbed out with a hex editor. If someone is able to rip them out, please give a proper comb through to double check these (besides also adding some model renders here, obviously.)

Prerendered Video Animations#

Much like the base game, a few animations only ever seen in prerendered videos have snuck their way into the files once more. Some General Graves and Dr. Proton animations happen to be the culprits this time.

Found in characters/proton are the animations for Proton's transmissions speeches. These below are seen in Going Down. (a_proton_intro_04_bik)

  • a_proton_intro.anm

General Graves#

Besides the animations mentioned above, Graves has a few more unused ones. Found in characters/general_graves_dlc03.

  • a_scr_graves_donkey_intro
  • a_scr_graves_edf_base_intro - Seems to be unused version of a_scr_graves_meets_duke_and_dylan.anm(?)

Unused Achievements#

To do:
try and dig up more info about these.

There are two unused achievements for The Doctor Who Cloned Me mentioned in the executable and in MilesAudio.dll, NullRenDev.dll, Fire.dll and Engine.dll.

  • ACH_Deprecated2 - Unclear what the conditions of this would've been.
  • ACH_SingKaraoke - Most likely would've involved the player singing karaoke in The Burning Bush. Again, why this was cut is unknown.

Oddities#

To do:
DLC_DLC03_loading.jpn also has early/alternative names for the levels.

  • The Doctor Who Cloned Me is referred to as "DLC03" in the files, this appears to be because a second DLC similar to Hail to the Icons was scrapped and merged into this DLC. The developers seemingly never bothered to internally update the DLC to account for this.
  • Two of the .jpn files appear to feature an early or alternative name for the DLC, referred to as Dr. Proton's Robot Army.
DLC03_Game.jpn
[UDukeSceneSinglePlayerDLC03]
TitleText=DR. PROTON'S ROBOT ARMY
DLC_DLC03_dnwindow.jpn
[UDukeSceneDLC]
Entries[1]=(Text="DR. PROTON'S ROBOT ARMY",Command="DLC03_Game.UDukeSceneSinglePlayerDLC03")
  • Assets for the Sky-High and Drop Zone maps are stored together. This may suggest that these two maps were built off each other in some way.
  • The multiplayer maps have different names for their assets that may suggest earlier names for them.
    • Sky-High is referred to as "Rooftops". This, combined with content intended for the map left in the base game suggest that "Rooftops" was in fact the map's original name.
    • Biohazard is referred to as "Breston".
    • Command is referred to as "edfbase". This name was used by a map mentioned in removed file paths from the base game, so it is likely this is the map referred to there.
    • Drop Zone is referred to as "LKR", likely standing for "Lady Killer Rooftops". "LKR" is also mentioned in the removed file paths.
  • Much like the base game, Duke along with Captain Dylan's voice lines when they are shrunken are recorded normally and are simply pitched down in-game. This means that their unique lines that play when they're shrunken can never be heard in-game in their unedited forms.

Both DLCs

This section discuss content that is found in or relevant to both DLCs.

Language Text#

Unlike the base game on PC, both DLCs contain all text from all languages of the game. The base game will only have one language present in its files depending on your settings when running the game on Steam (e.g. Having English as the selected language of the game).

Empty Folder Oddities#

Both DLCs on Windows have a folder called PrecacheIndex, Hail to the Icons Parody Pack has an empty folder called sounds and The Doctor Who Cloned Me has an empty text file called NULL.txt. In addition, the Textures/bik and Music folders of Hail to the Icons are empty.

Regional Names#

These names have been taken from stores and the DLC_DLC01_Dlcinfo and DLC_DLC03_Dlcinfo language files from the game.
