Counter-Strike (Xbox)

The PC phenomenon makes a quick pit-stop on the consoles, more specifically, the original Xbox. Now with new maps and the debut of AI "bots" for when your friends are too busy playing Halo, as well as graphically-enhanced existing maps.

Unused Map#

Originally, cs_downed was to make its first (and last) appearance in Counter-Strike on this Xbox port instead of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. This map was to use the SEAL Team 6 and Guerrilla Warfare factions and would use the pilot models from Deleted Scenes for its hostages. A map thumbnail also remains on disc.

Unused Graphics#

M60#

The M60 machine gun cut from the PC version has two weapon selection graphics leftover in the files, remade for this port's style. These indicate that the M60 was to appear in this version of Counter-Strike, but was also cut.

Leftover Graphics#

HUD sprites, such as the unused icons for Half-Life items and weapon selection graphics from Deleted Scenes are leftover in the Xbox version's files.

Options Menu#

Two graphics named "Options_Background1" and "Options_Background2". Judging from their filenames, they were used in an early version of the options menu, as they look significantly different to the final's menus.

Unused Text#

zzzz.txt#

A dummy text file located in \CacheTree-English\ZZZZZZZZZ (exactly 9 Zs).

This is some text so we can check the file length.

Leftover Text#

Each map is a separate, stand-alone archive. As such, each map has some leftovers from the PC game that are apparently required by the engine, like the Half-Life 1 skill definitions (skill.cfg) and the default Message of the Day (motd.txt):

The LocEnglish.txt file contains some unused strings.
