Player creation still has Lucas present but in-game he has been replaced with Ethan. Trainer's Card still has Lucas.
Kris or Lyra have not replaced Dawn in this build of the game.
The default following Pokémon was changed from Shaymin to Pidgeot.
Ethan's design in the prototype build appears to be faithful to his original Gold & Silver design, down to the yellow pants and the red Poké Ball logo on his hat. Additionally, like in the original, his bag appears to be a square backpack instead of a pouch.
Additionally Lucas still remains for any actions that aren't walking or running.

This build features an extremely early version of the Johto region, spawning the player into an overworld filled with placeholder checkerboard grass. Some basic blocking has been done between zones - things like cliffs, trees, and ocean tiles - but not much refinement.
That said, there's some early drafts of some overworld music if you wander far enough.
An early draft of Violet City's theme.
An early draft of Azalea Town's theme

Figure out why exactly the text broke here, as it doesn't seem to happen in the April 17, 2007 build.
NPCs and signs have been added to the very unfinished version of the Johto region, but they cannot be interacted with. The warps in the debug menu haven't been updated yet, meaning you can warp into trees, the void, etc.
The text doesn't show up properly when the game is saved, when held items are swapped, or when the debug/start menu is used.

The player is placed in Ecruteak City, where map refinement is well underway. NPCs appear here, but have no dialogue. The player can enter all of the buildings, but all of them are pretty much the same placeholder building.
A version of Route 37 is present in this build, just south of Ecruteak. The route more closely resembles the version in the original games, as evident by the placement of the Twins, but there's only one other trainer at the top. The placeholder music here is the Route 201 theme from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Although the trees used are from Diamond and Pearl, the placement is accurate to the final.

The game icon has been changed from what is was from March 12, 2007 until now.
Ecruteak City has been given another detail pass, with NPCS added to new interiors, as well as new models for the Gym, the Burned Tower, and the Pokémart and Pokémon Center. Oddly, the latter two use a different palette from the final that is specific to the town, a trend that continues through many upcoming builds (even as far as the 2008 builds!).
Additionally, NPCs that are outside have dialogue, but the ones inside buildings do not.
