This is a sub-page of Proto:Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver/2008/January 2008 Builds.

Careful, you'll lose an eye.

This page or section needs more images.
There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.

'...But what does it mean?'
This game has text or audio that needs to be translated. If you are fluent with this language, please read our translation guidelines and then submit a translation!

To do:

  • A multiplayer option is available. Does it work?
  • Add comparison images.
  • Give better descriptions of differences to the final version.

A very early version of the Pokéathlon is present, featuring an early version of Hurdle Dash as well as two scrapped events.

Receptionist Menu#

To do:
Properly document all of the menu

January 31 2008

Final

The Receptionist's Menu is a lot more basic than the final game's touch oriented menu.

Pokémon Selection#

January 31 2008

Final

January 31 2008 Confirmation

Final Confirmation

The Pokémon Selection menu is very unfinished. The top screen is blank, unlike the final version which displays the Pokémon's Pokéathlon stats. Additionally, the confirmation message is in a full message box and longer than the final version's. When selecting from your party, the previous box name is listed at the top.

Opening Ceremony#

Final Start

January 31 2008

Final

An earlier version of the opening ceremony is present. The announcer's dialogue advances automatically unlike the final version.

Events#

To do:

  • Translate event titles
  • Compare ripped countdown/finish graphics instead of using screenshots

Course selection hasn't been implemented yet, leaving only three playable events in this build. Their title cards are the only thing present before the event automatically starts, leaving the bottom screen blank until then.

The countdown graphics and finish graphics are different compared to the final game.

January 31 2008 Hurdle Dash Results 1

January 31 2008 Hurdle Dash Results 2

Final Results

January 31 2008 Event 2 Results

The results screen is fairly different and simplistic. The score counter shows random numbers until the final scores are announced, unlike the final games which display 000 until then. It's also functionally different in Hurdle Dash specifically, showing the results of each individual Pokémon instead of your team's total time. In the second event, this screen displays with slightly buggy graphics. The final event skips the results screen altogether.

Event 1 (Hurdle Dash)#

January 31 2008 Title Card

Final Title Card

Hurdle dash has a different name in this build.

January 31 2008

Final

The graphics for this event are in an early state, and instead of hurdles, your Pokémon need to jump over grass. The borders around each Pokémon also darken as they approach the goal.

Gameplay differences include Pokémon seeming to not speed up after jumping close to a "hurdle" and being permanently slowed down for making a mistake.

Event 2#

Pokemon_HGSS_Jan_31_08_Pokeathlon_Event_2_Card.png Pokemon_HGSS_Jan_31_08_Pokeathlon_Event_2_Gameplay.png

In this scrapped event, pellets fall from the sky and your goal is to use the touch screen to guide each of your Pokémon to catch as many as possible.

Event 3#

Pokemon_HGSS_Jan_31_08_Pokeathlon_Event_3_Card.png Pokemon_HGSS_Jan_31_08_Pokeathlon_Event_3_Gameplay.png

In this scrapped event, balls come in from the left side of the screen with varying arcs. Your goal is to bounce them off of your Pokémon's heads to carry each one beyond the right side of the screen. A Pokémon can only bounce each ball on their head once. At first, only one ball will be on screen at a time, but as the event goes on more will be in play at once.

Closing Ceremony#

January 31 2008

Final

Like the opening ceremony, the graphics are in an early state and the dialogue auto advances.

Dialogue#

To do:

  • Translate and compare to final Japanese dialogue.
  • Add the remaining receptionist dialogue.
