Super Tetris 2 + BomBliss is, unsurprisingly, a solid follow up to Tetris 2 + BomBliss. Not so obvious are its obscurities, including a promotional gold cartridge, updated re-release, Super Famicom Box version, and computer versions (Windows 3.1, Mac, PC-98). It was also advertised (then canceled) for the Sufami Turbo.

Whew.

Tetris Battle Gaiden Leftovers#

Unique to the limited edition, at 1182C, is leftover text from the Tetris Battle Gaiden options menu.

Anti-Piracy/Region Lockout#

The limited edition adds an anti-piracy check after the BPS logo to ensure the game is being run on a legitimate cartridge, which has exactly 2KB of SRAM. This is done by first checking if the game is being played on a PAL console, then writing a value at $700020 and a different one at $700820 then ensuring the values at both addresses are the same to ensure the SRAM mirror is in the correct location. If the values do not match or if the game is run on a PAL console, the game restarts, looping endlessly on the BPS logo and thus unable to proceed to the actual game.

Game Genie code 99D4-FADD will activate the anti-piracy measure.

Version Differences#

There are three total versions of the game: the original release, the revision 1 ROM, and the limited edition.

The revision 1 ROM contains a single small, but important change: it fixes the spelling of the word "stereo" on the options menu.

Thankfully, the limited edition is more interesting: it changed the title screen colors, has different Bombliss levels, and uses the newer BPS logo (but not on the title screen background, for some reason). The BPS logos themselves also use different jingles.
