Splatoon 2 has a lot of early maps, test maps, and unused maps, including a fair amount of things that come from Splatoon. Most of the unused maps use grayboxing to map out levels before completion, a technique where a game developer would make a concept purely out of placeholder assets before fleshing out the visuals with polish.
Unused Multiplayer Map Entries#
All of the maps from the first game appear in unused data, along with some completely new maps.

In this unused Story Mode map, you begin in Octcave00 with a giant rotating object on your right and a few enemies in front of you. In this unused Story Mode map, you move through six maps battling enemies and trying to stay alive. After defeating all the enemies on the stage, a manhole will appear and you can travel to the next battle stage.
TF906_rogaining_pivot#
In this unused Story Mode map, you spawn in Museum d'Alfonsino, and moving around will make rivals jump upon you. There are no Mini Zapfish, so this map cannot be completed.
