Unused Gear

This is a sub-page of Splatoon 2/Unused & Unobtainable Gear.

Headgear#

CAP015#

S2_Hed_CAP015_M.png
The Legendary Cap from Splatoon, directly ported from it. The models can be found in the base 1.0.0 files, and it has a placeholder gear entry, beyond still being apart of the Cuttlegear brand. This gear is a special case in that it actually has a name entry in the message file, which means it may have been shifted over to a Salmon Run reward fairly late in development.

It seems they may have still considered bringing it back without Grizzco branding, as a new unisex model was added in 2.1.0. It's mostly similar to the final Cap of Legend, but the texturing is completely different. The gear entry was updated to support more hairstyles, and to use the new unisex model.

CAP016#

S2_Hed_CAP016.png

MSN109#

S2_Hed_MSN109.png
An infamous mask modeled after the final boss of Octo Expansion, NILS. The model is first found in 3.0.0 and has a gear entry that was removed in 3.1.0. The gear entry indicates that it was intended to be another piece of unlockable reward gear in Octo Expansion. Notably, the entry for this was replaced with the Teddy Band in Splatoon 3, marking the only time throughout the whole series where a gear piece's ID has been replaced.
