This page is loooong... |
Set in an alternate reality in the year 2025, Segagaga focuses on Sega itself as the company is on the brink of collapse, having a mere 3% share of the market versus the evil Dogma Corporation's 97%. It is now up to Taro Sega and his companion Yayoi Haneda to put a stop to Dogma's evil plans and save Sega.
CD Warning#
|
|
'...But what does it mean?' |
If you play the disc on a CD player other than a Dreamcast, a song from the game (Futari no Dreamcast) will play followed by a short warning from the voice of Secretary Alisa.
Unused Developer Characters#
Real-Life Developers#
The following six characters are very obviously based on real people. These characters are unique in that they cannot be accessed even through debug mode; you must directly alter memory or save files to uncover them. Five of them have archive database entries that can be viewed if you do this.

Hamamura's sprite also appears in the data related to release date interviews, implying that at one point he was intended to serve as the interviewer in these scenes rather than the generic game magazine editor used in the final version.
Horii's sprite depicts him with a Slime, while Shigeru is depicted clutching Majora's Mask.
The sprites and profile data for the above six characters, while not accessible via normal means in any version of Segagaga, can only be found in the initial v1.022 release. Their graphics and text are scrubbed entirely from v2.0.
Otaku Amigos#
The following two characters appear as NPCs in Comiket but cannot be battled or recruited outside of debug mode. They also have profile text that is not normally viewable under any circumstances.
The removal of these character profiles also appears to be reflected in an in-game conversation that happens in Comiket: The player character thanks Karasawa for the yakiniku, Karasawa responds with "that's not your line", and the player character rebuts with "there was no other place to put it."

Adult Children Controversy#
There are two known publicly released revisions of Segagaga, and the only known difference in user-facing content between the two of them is the name of the following character. (Other differences between the two versions are confined to dummied-out content that can't be accessed via ordinary means in either release.)
v1.022 |
v2.000 |
|---|---|
アダルトチルドレン (Adult Children) |
スパイおじさん (Spy Oji-san) |
"Adult Children" was meant in this context straightforwardly as "man-child" or "childlike adult", but the term is also used in Japan to refer to people who grew up under alcoholic parents. Associations who work with such people objected to the use of this term, so it was removed in the second release.
Unused Items#
Three items are available only via debug mode. Unkel and Unkel Star appear to be alternate/WIP versions of other items that have different descriptions from what is used in their final versions. Judging from its description and placement in the item list, Gevas appears to have been at some point intended for use in R&D C's bartering sequence.

Unused Games#
The business simulation side of Segagaga concerns the creation of video games to boost your market share. A number of the included games are inaccessible.
Yuji Naka's Games#
Games that you make in SGGG are tied to specific developers; in order to create a specific game, you have to put a specific developer who can make that game in the director's chair, and in the vast majority of cases there is only one possible director who is capable of creating any particular game. The following six games on the disc are tied to Yuji Naka's character, and because his character was dummied out of the final release, this means that you cannot actually create the following six games in SGGG under normal circumstances. This is notable in this specific case because the following games are rather important pieces in Sega's catalog, and it means that the accessible in-game library has a few headscratchers regarding inclusions/exclusions. Titles like Sonic Spinball and Sonic Drift are present, yet the mainline Mega Drive entries are not. The Mega Drive reprint of Phantasy Star is present, but the Mark III original is not. Christmas NiGHTS is present, but the original NiGHTS into Dreams is not.
If you manipulate the game into adding Yuji Naka to your developer roster, through editing memory or save files, then you can use him to create the following games. Unlike the other dummied-out Sega games on disc, these six titles will show up in the in-game archives with fully functional and complete descriptions, suggesting that they very much were meant to be included at one point.

Other Sega Games#
Several other unused games exist in the data, with artwork and sometimes partially-complete archive descriptions accompanying them. Most of these were likely cut due to an inability to clear the licensing rights for them, as most of them are either third-party games or were tie-ins to some other company's property.

Parody Games#
Several more unused games on the disc are parodies, often of other companies' games or of miscellaneous pop culture franchises. In the final release, only two parody games ("Alisa: The Moe Moe Secretary" and "Sega Lolly Championship") are actually used. The rest, listed below, are inaccessible under normal circumstances. You can edit memory to coerce a director into creating the games listed below, and doing so will usually unlock a fully functional archive description that can be permanently viewed in the archives thereafter.
The graphics and text for each of the games shown below exist only in the v1.022 release. v2.000 scrubs them out entirely, leaving behind only solid black placeholder graphics.
