Platform Specific#

Roblox (Windows) The Roblox PC version, commonly known as the original version. Also includes Roblox Studio. (Daniel.)

Roblox (Microsoft Store) When the mobile port wants to be a PC game.

Unused Features#

Aurora#

Aurora exists in three ways, a service, ScriptService and a script instance.¹³¹⁴ It should be noted that none of these assets can be found in the Roblox Player. This service seems to be related to the physics engine, possibly allowing users to take full control over the physics engine and the client-server physics interactions and communications. Could also possibly be related to Server Authority, which is an item on their roadmap for 2025. This feature can right now only be used on special builds meant for Interns, as fast-flag modifications in Roblox Studio are needed for this feature to be activated alongside being on some sort of allow-list. All of this info is taken from build version-9a1e7554d93c459d, which was released on the 30th of May, 2025.

Footage of the Aurora Script instance being used can be found on the devforum. These video's also show that the Aurora features work on Roblox Intern accounts.

Unused Icons#

The AuroraScript has 6 currently unused images related to the instance. These images are used as icons for the instances.

These are the icons meant for the dark mode theme, found under content\studio_svg_textures\Shared\InsertableObjects\Dark\Standard. The number after the @ is the resolution multiplier, basically @2x has twice the resolution of the normal AuroraScript icon.

Flags#

The StudioAppSettings.json file contains a couple of flags related to Aurora. This file can be found under %LOCALAPPDATA%/Roblox/ClientSettings. The fflags listed here are all set to their default values.

Emotes Editor#

These assets were meant for an Emote wheel editor. These graphics show that they might have originally planned to give users the ability to edit their selected emotes in-game, instead of always needing to-do it through the Emotes tab in the Avatar Editor. All of these files were found in the content\textures\ui\Emotes\Editor directory.

Unused Data#

Keepme#

Whenever the Roblox installer downloads the shaders it also downloads and then later deletes an empty file called keepme. What the purpose is of this file is unknown. Before changes to the shaders were made somewhere in 2025, this file actually stayed in the Roblox client files.

Debug Information#

The game has couple of debugging tools built in which can be enabled and disabled on command.

This UI can not be interacted with. F1 shows general information. F2 shows graphics information. F3 shows network information. F4 shows performance information. F5 shows a cutdown version of F4. F6 shows a modified microprofiler that is configured to work with Roblox. F7 shows the 'Performance Stats' (also can be enabled in the game's options). The appearance and information of these debug displays differs based on the client's version.
F9 or typing /console into chat	Shows the game's Lua script logs, to determine what is going on in the background. Intended for game developers to debug their games online. Log shows the log of the client, which shows script errors and debug logs produced by the individual game scripts. Game developers also see the 'Server' tab, which allows them to see the output of the server console, and run Lua code on the game server as it is running. Memory allows developers to see what individual features (such as textures, physics) and game scripts are using the most memory. Game developers also see the 'server' tab which allows developers to see the same information on the server. Network (game owners only) allows developers to see what HTTP requests the client & server are making to external servers. Scripts (game owners only) allows developers to see how much time (a.k.a CPU %) each server script is using. DataStores (game owners only) allows developers to see the amount of DataStore calls made for each method. ServerStats (game owners only)) allows developers too see the average ping and data throughput for the server. ActionBindings (game owners only) allows the developers to see what keybindings created using the ContextActionService ServerJobs (game owners only) is similar to ServerStats how it is more focused on internal Roblox functions. MicroProfiler (game server only) allows developers to enable MicroProfiler on the client, and also record a ServerProfile which is a flame chart, which is stored as a HTML file on the clients computer

The F1-F7 debug menus were the only remnants of Roblox's legacy hard-coded GUI system, from the ages prior to late 2009. These were changed in 2018 to use a different GUI system, that serves the same purpose.
Almost all of the old built-in UI elements have been removed from the engine, in favor of using the publicly accessible, Lua player GUIs.

Regional Differences#

Luobu Version#

To do: Complete the list of censorships. Document the differences in the APK, iOS and Studio builds. (First verify these are official.) An alternative version for Chinese players called Luobu was released on December 18, 2020. It was shut down on December 6, 2021. This version contains many features and gameplay elements that were altered to comply with regulations. However since it used the main servers prior, you can still access the games on there even after the shutdown, but it's very rare to find them now. The Chinese version (service longer operational) can be found here: roblox.qq.com.

Logo's#

Roblox Luobu has logos different from the ones seen in the global release. Notably, Roblox Player and Studio use the old versions of their globally seen logos.

Usernames#

Usernames cannot be made by players themselves. All usernames are "Robloxian" followed by 9 random lowercase letters and numbers.

Login Page#

Like other mobile apps in China, players login and make accounts using either WeChat or QQ.

Censorship#

The Chinese government has a bunch of interesting rules on what is and what isn't allowed in digital media. Due to this plenty of tame things got censored. Along-side a bunch of content like zombies some basic game mechanics also got censored. Some of these changes can still be seen in now abandoned Luobu games like 自然灾害幸存者.

Falling

Falling was censored in the Luobu version. This sometimes also included falling back down to the ground after jumping, but it's likely that this only ever happened due to faulty programming of the 'parachute'. When the player falls they are given a parachute. This parachute doesn't do anything and is purely cosmetic.

Dying

This censorship sounds logical, but it isn't. They censored the part where your character falls apart. This change is rather unusual, considering that the players character is a robot.

Platform Differences#

There are small differences between all of the different platforms the Roblox engine is released on. These changes mostly exist due to these platforms having content that's exclusive to them.

Platform Exclusive Folders#

Folders are listed here with text stating if those folders exist on a certain platform or not. Keep in mind that the Microsoft Store version is based on the mobile releases, which causes them to share a lot of folders. This list may be incomplete. For iOS, these folders are located at Payload\Roblox.app\Frameworks\RobloxLib.framework, for Android these folders are located at assets.

Studio Exclusive Folders#

Folders are listed here when they exist in Studio, but don't exist in the Player. WebView2RuntimeInstaller isn't fully exclusive to Studio, it just seems like Studio is the only one that keeps the folder and always downloads it. This list may be incomplete.

Outdated Assets#

Roblox in certain places has outdated assets, like old logo's left to be found.

“Service Not Available”#

To do: Where is this graphic found? Which platform was this image taken on?

There is a specific graphic still found in the files of the game. For some reason, it can pop up at any time, even though the logo is outdated. This graphic can show up if you are suddenly banned from a game after leaving.
