Unused Vehicles#
|
|
To do:
|
DeadDodo#

The Dodo plane that is always in the air back in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is in this game. The DeadDodo is mentioned in handling file and and can be spawned with third-party trainers. However, simply spawning through it without further modifications will crash the game upon spawning. A Dodo can also be spawned with the debug menu and while it does not crash the game, it won't accelerate.
Hunter#

The Hunter attack helicopter is in the game as a leftover from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, but is never used. A fully damage proof Hunter can be spawned during the story mission Karmageddon by getting on top of the biggest pyramid opposite police station in Torrington, Staunton Island and pressing L + Up + Select + X simultaneously. If done correctly, a sound will be heard and the Hunter will be accessible on the helipad on top of Big Shot Casino.
RC Goblin#

The little toy copter from Vice City was to return, but was cut. It can still be spawned with the debug menu or trainers, but a mod needs to be installed in order to control it. Trying to enter it without further modification crashes the game.
RC Raider#

Another toy helicopter that was cut. It can still be obtained through the debug menu or trainers. Trying to enter it without further modification crashes the game.
VCN Maverick#

Yet another leftover Vice City asset, can be obtained with trainers. However, it has no acceleration, suggesting it never went any further than a concept.
Bus#

The Bus from Grand Theft Auto III was most likely meant to return. However, it was disabled from spawning and can now only be spawned via the debug menu or trainers.
Ghost#

Another vehicle from Grand Theft Auto III. The vehicle is functional, but the texture mapping is rather buggy and always appears as a black paintjob.
Tommy#
An odd-looking vehicle that can only be found in the iOS/Android versions, which can be modded back into the game as it has the necessary filenames.
Mafiablood#
An unused and rather gory variant of the Leone Sentinel likely intended for The Made Man. In the final game, a regular Leone Sentinel is used instead.
Other Vehicles#
- Toyota Supra: Interestingly, a Toyota Supra is listed in text files. It is unknown what its in-game name would be (assuming it would be changed), although the previous game's Jester did resemble a Toyota Supra.
- Subaru Impreza WRX: Just as interesting, a Subaru Impreza WRX is also listed in text files. It is unknown if this would be its name if it made it to the final, although the previous game's Sultan did resemble a Subaru Impreza.
- Dodo: Unlike the DeadDodo, this one will not crash the game upon spawning. However, it has no acceleration, making it undrivable.
Unused Character Models#
CSTESTER#
An unused model of Toni dating back to early development, this iteration was seen in some of the very first screenshots shared of the game.
|
CSTESTER |
CSPlayer |
|---|---|
|
|
Interestingly, the model appears to be built off of Tommy Vercetti from Vice City, in particular the "Mr. Vercetti" outfit.
(Source: Kamikatsu/GTA Wiki)
Hero Garb (CSPlayer11)#
Oddly, the game has two sets of cutscene models. The used ones follow the naming scheme of CSPlr# while the unused set goes by CSPlayer#. One of these duplicates is actually an earlier version of Toni's hero costume.

Mayor R.C. Hole#
Mr. Hole makes his only appearance during the mission A Walk in the Park wearing appropriate jogging attire ("holejog"), but an unused model model of him wearing a suit ("m_hole") also exists.
Placeholder Models#
The model/texture files of player1 through player16 and toni_a1 through toni_l1 contain identical placeholder models. In the May 29th build of the game, these files housed early versions of Toni's in-game models.
Additionally, a placeholder texture named "odonovan" also exists, which was meant for Miles O'Donovan whose in-game files are named donovan. It has no model to go along with it, but the texture is shown here applied to the above model.
Cut Characters#
In unused text for (presumably) and earlier version of the debug character viewer, two characters are listed which are nowhere to be seen, even in the available prototype builds. They are Franco Forelli, a rival mobster who is mentioned but never seen and "Fthr Kenny", presumably an early moniker for Ned Burner, who poses as a priest in order to have Toni do "the Lord's dirty work".
Unused Weapons#
|
|
To do: |
Tear Gas#
Like most games from the Grand Theft Auto series, Tear Gas is not available normally but can be obtained through trainers.
Ruger#
Data for the scrapped returning weapon from Vice City can be found in the PlayStation 2 version, but only the texture and HUD icon remains. The icon interestingly contrasts with the other weapons in the game, signifying it may have been cut early in development.
Unused Graphics#
Placeholder Loading Screens#
Three placeholder loading screens which can only be found unused in the PlayStation 2 version.
Newscast Screens#
Unused screens for a TV newscast are present on the PS2 disc. They were meant to be used for a cutscene after the mission "Love on the Rocks"
Early Map Icons#
Early map icons for JD O'Toole, Salvatore Leone, Maria Latore and Leon McAffrey. Oddly, the early textures are named after Vice City characters, radar_diaz, radar_cortez, radar_lawyer and radar_kent, respectively.

Unused Audio#
Coast Guard#
Police boats are in the game, but never used by LCPD. However, unused quotes for the coast guard can be found in the files.
Early Mission Complete Theme#
|
|
To do: |
An early Mission Complete theme is present on the disc. It's a clip from the intro cutscene of the game, with the sound effects from the cutscene still there, hinting that it might just have been a placeholder. 300px
Unused Text#
It seems that the player was originally going to have to pick up a change of clothes at Mr.Benz, instead of the safehouse.
~w~New outfits become available to the player during the game, and must be collected from Mr. Benz.

ENTRIES.DAT#
|
File: GTA-LCS ENTRIES.zip (22kb) (info) |
Present in most versions of the game is ENTRIES.DAT, an XML document detailing various files (including removed debugging tools) and with their checksums, commit dates and authors. Germany v1.00, Europe/USA v1.05, Europe v2.00, Germany v2.00, Europe v3.00 and USA v3.00 all include a different version of the document, included in the archive above. The Japanese version and version 4.00 lack the file. As an example, below is the document from German v1.00.

Test Cutscene#
Accessible with the debug menu is this short test cutscene, cuttest. It uses a clip of audio from the beginning cutscene to the Biker Heat mission.
Oddities#
- Leon McAffrey's missions are labeled RAY1 to RAY5. Ray Machowski is his partner who was more prominently featured in Grand Theft Auto III.
- Between the Ma Cipriani missions Dead Meat (MAC4) and No Son of Mine (MAC5) is an additional mission Casa (MAC4_0). Nothing remains of it but the name, it could be a simple leftover however.

For the German version, many of the changes done were similar to that of Grand Theft Auto III. These include:
- Blood was removed, including bloodied tire tracks when driving over pedestrians.
- The ability to kick enemies when they are lying on the ground.
- The removal of headshots caused by the sniper rifle and katana.
- Pedestrians won't drop money when they are killed.
- The massacre minigame is removed.
- The statistic menu removes the body count numbers.
Revisional Differences#
PlayStation Portable#
- Early PSP versions of the game was notable for a buffer overflow exploit in the saved games, opening the floodgates of homebrew programs to be run using specially crafted saves by Fanjita and n00bz. Not only a new firmware was released to patch it (which turned out to be ineffectual for a while), the game was reissued with the exploit fixed; distinguishing fixed and original versions were noticeably difficult, likely to crack down the use of the exploit.
- Sometime around the mobile release, the downloadable version of the PSP original available on the PlayStation Store was updated to version 4.00. This version received the same changes made to the music as the mobile release. The radio files have a modified date of November 11, 2015 and the text containers have March 15, 2016.
Android/iOS#
- One line of dialogue was altered in the mission Dead Meat, which appeared in the earlier prototypes.
