Fire Emblem Awakening is like a reboot of Fire Emblem: it combines and expands on many previous features from the series and introduces some of its own, like the pair-up system. Most notably, it expands the support system considerably: you can play matchmaker and pair up your favorite characters to create even more playable characters.

Old Hubba's Roster Entry#
紹介文.bin
An old man who just sort of showed up. Mostly useless, though he can assess relationships.
Oh, and he's a few millennia old or something.
The one with the wildest love life. Born on February 29th.
At one point, Old Hubba was intended to be viewable in the roster. He has an entry in the roster right after Emmeryn. He is the last character in the roster data.
It can be assumed that Old Hubba was never intended to be a playable character, rather being an NPC with roster data, for the following reasons: Old Hubba has no model, texture, or stats. His birthday is written directly in the roster text, rather than being listed on a separate text file like all playable units' birthdays are.
A translation of Old Hubba's Japanese roster profile further confirms this, as it makes note of his poor fighting skills, and that he sits in a corner of the convoy.
An old man who appeared out of nowhere. Terrible at fighting, but can gauge relationships.
When the company marches, he sits in a corner of the convoy hidden by the luggage.
Apparently he’s been running a fortune-telling shop for over a millennia.
The one with the most experience of love. Born on 29th February.

Localized Downloadable Content Text Scripts#
A few DLC 'Xenologues' already had their script text localized, presumably by 8-4 Ltd.. They're located in the directory path with the other game script files. This explains why so much of the DLC text after Rogues & Redeemers 3 is altered in the respective NSTC/PAL versions; Nintendo of Europe and Nintendo of America translated these installments separately!
However, the game does NOT use these when playing the DLC, instead opting to use a different copy of the file with a differently named header and filename.
The following DLC files are named "E001","E002", etc., all the way to "E015". There are associated text files for the item descriptions.
Birthday Event Strings#
Menu.bin
MID_MYROOM_誕生日終了: A birthday event has occurred!
MID_MYROOM_誕生日終了: Another birthday ended...
If only every day were like this!
While birthday events do occur in the barracks, there are no system messages for such an event. There is also an empty category in the sound archive for "SYS_BIRTHDAY".
Second Ending Movie Name#
The second prerendered cutscene that plays after the credits (if Robin lands the final blow on Grima) is not normally viewable in the Theater. However, it still has a name in the movie list:
Ending 2
...It's not a very creative name.
Unused Unit Names#
Entries for a few unused characters are listed in GameData.bin. None of the below characters have descriptions.
Andrea#
There is an entry for a character named Andrea. Andrea's name is located with the SpotPass characters.
Leopold#
An entry for "Leopold" exists between Cordelia and Nowi's entries.
Bella#
An entry for "Bella" exists between Minerva and Validar's entries.
(Source: Robotortoise)
Tracie#
An entry for "Tracie" exists between Henry and Lucina's entries.
Mount Unit Names#
Entries for "Minerva" and "Pegasus" exist between the "Ruffian" entry and "Bella"' entry. Considering the location of "Minerva" in the unit list, the entry is intended to be the wyvern, not the redheaded Macedonian princess from past Fire Emblem games.

Unused Graphics#
Debug Font#
A simple English debug font.
Gerome Unmasked Cut-In#
Gerome has an unused cut-in portrait where he's unmasked. He never takes his mask off in battle, rendering this unused.
Phila Cut-In#
Phila has an unused critical hit cut-in sprite, yet she's never an actual unit, making this sprite unused. It is unknown what this would have been used for.
Unused Classes#
|
|
This page or section needs more images. |
A lot of characters in the game have full map sprite sheets for classes that are inaccessible to them in the final game.
Myrmidon > Hero Promotion
Every playable Myrmidon (barring Yen'fay) has class sprites for the Hero class next to the Swordmaster class on their class list, suggesting that the original promotion branch for Myrmidons would be these two classes. Meanwhile, the second promotion for all Myrmidons' promotion branch in the final game, Assassins, appears near the end of the class list for all of them, suggesting they were added later in development. Hero was the promoted class for Myrmidons in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, which further supports this.
Tiki
Tiki has class sprites for the Pegasus Knight, as well as its two promotions: Falcon Knight and Dark Flier. This suggests that she originally was going to have this as her reclassing option, which would have made her stand out more compared to Nowi.
Aversa
Aversa has Mage and Sage class sprites, though she uses her Dark Knight class sprite from the former line due to her access to Dark Mage (which shares the promotion). This would have made much better use of her personal skill, Shadowgift, which is rendered redundant or unusable by her final reclassing options.
Emmeryn
Emmeryn has class sprites for the Mage class. This is strange as she has sprites for the second promotion of the class, Dark Knight, despite starting as a Sage (through the Cleric class line) and coming with some of the Mage's class skills.
Donnel
Donnel has class sprites for Swordmaster... and only Swordmaster. He does not possess any for Myrmidon, suggesting that this was potentially a planned promotion for Villagers.
Sumia
Early screenshots of the game show Sumia as a Cavalier, but she does not possess any class sprites relating to that or Paladin in the released game. While it is unknown why her class was changed, it is speculated that because she is the 'canonical' love interest for Chrom, the developers did not want her and Chrom to have an overlapping secondary class for Lucina and Cynthia to inherit, so Sumia's secondary class was changed to Knight.

Early Baby Lucina Artwork#
There are actually two drawings of baby Lucina; only the former is used. The unused version can be found in a modified duplicate of the Baby Lucina art model.

Falchion Placeholder#
A placeholder that reads "Falchion (using a 3D model)".
Flame Placeholder#
A similar placeholder that says "Scarlet Flame Gem (using a 3D model)". Scarlet Flame Gem (known as Gules in the North American release) is the red gem in the Shield of Seals.
Great Tree of Mila Placeholder#
A location placeholder that translates to "Great Tree of Mila".
Test Forest Placeholder#
A forest themed texture used for testing.
Test Cut in#
Tlp_CutIn.r
|
|
To do: |
A test critical cut-in that uses Flavia's face.
Placeholder Confession Graphics#
Many of the "confession" scenes (the scenes where characters profess their love for the Avatar) have unused or hidden elements.
Unused Background Used in Many Confessions#
Tlp_Ev_c049.r/BG,Tlp_EV_c046.r/BG,etc.
The above image, which is a render of the barracks scene with an XYZ axis visible, is located in the files for Yarne, Miriel, Aversa, and Emmeryn's confessions.
Note: Aversa and Emmeryn, while technically being unlocked via SpotPass, are actually in the game's files, as are all SpotPass characters.
Tiki's Confession Ground Texture#
Tlp_Ev_c048.r/BG
Tiki's confession archive contains a texture for stone, oddly enough.
Gangrel Placeholder Confession#
|
|
To do: |
Tlp_Ev_c047.r
Gangrel's confession is Tlp_Ev_c043.r, while this confession archive is 47. It is a copy of Gangrel's confession, but with less detail and an alternate color of Gangrel.
This archive also contains an image of stone architecture with "dummy" written on top. This image is actually taken from someone's travelogue about their visit to Syria in 1995.
Placeholder Frederick Confession#
Tlp_Ev_c002.r
|
|
To do: |
The second confession listed in the game is Frederick's confession, but with a different, simpler, animation and...no graphic for Frederick, or Robin's hand.
Placeholder Maps#
|
|
This needs some investigation. |
A significant amount of heavily compressed placeholder maps were left over.

Unused Models#
bls/ls_teststage
A large empty cube. The model is named "cube", fittingly enough.
bls/ls_teststage_ground00
A long, flat surface. Its model is named ground00.
bls/ls_teststage_ground01

A large background panel. The full texture is cut off because of the model's shape. The model is named ground01.
bls/ls_teststage_ground02

A bumpy terrain filled with trees. The model is named ground02_grp. The black on the trees is a rendering error.

Ending Credits Scene Secrets#
bls/ls_UI_desktop_ground00
There are 2 textures that each correspond to a "book" in the background of the ending scene. However, the front of each book can't be seen, thus making these textures hidden.
Each texture says "The Book of Secrets".
The front of the red book can be seen briefly, and its contents are visible, but because of the 3DS's low resolution, it's almost impossible to make out the words on the page. However, if one is to look at the texture itself, they can make out the words "Create a new layer" on the top of the right page.
(Source: Serene's Forest)
The full model can be seen below.
The chair is also cut off. It has fully modeled chair feet, which are stuck into the ground.
Unused Textures#
Support Background#
The background that's used in the background of character supports is actually much bigger than what is seen on-screen. Only about half of the background is seen in-game during supports.
Leftover Build Data#
SvnStamp.txt#
SvnStamp.txt, which is located in the root directory, contains the revision version. It is different in the demo and in the final.
Revision 21288.
TimeStamp.txt#
TimeStamp.txt, which is located in the root directory, contains the build date. It is different in the demo and in the final, as they were built at separate times.
