This is a sub-page of Prerelease:Pizza Tower.

During the development of Pizza Tower (as early as June 18th 2018), lead developer McPig would hold various livestreams on Twitch, showcasing progress on the game. Unfortunately though, most of the full VODs are lost media, with less than 50 currently surviving online, and a vast majority of other streams only existing as Twitch clips and some Twitter/Discord highlights (and as a meme in one case).

Note that game audio is rarely, if ever heard in these streams due to McPig listening to music while working.

To do:

  • An archive of streams can be found here.
  • Add everything. If there are moments in streams you find notable, add timestamps. A good number of streams are probably lost forever, but we can at least find the stream names, dates and clips here.
  • Even if a stream is marked as lost, feel free to search for it anyway. Someone may have just not looked hard enough.
  • Maybe stitch together and upload clips from a stream if they show something notable?

2021

drawing kids party sprites (January 18, 2021)#

Watch on YouTubeThis stream is almost entirely making the sprites for Peshino and the Toppin Monsters. Notable moments include:

1:18:32 - McPig drawing a completely different sprite for the Cheese Monster before changing his mind and deleting it.

1:46:45 - McPig drawing different designs for the Sausage Monster's face for 3 minutes. The sprite he made is an idle sprite that went unused in the final game.

2:00:13 - McPig drawing the Pineapple Toppin alerting the Monsters, a mechanic that was replaced by the Pineapple Monster in the final game. This is followed by McPig drawing several random monster designs, likely just for fun.

more backgroundi, macaroni (January 28, 2021)#

Watch on YouTubeIn this stream McPig draws backgrounds for a jail, which was made for a city level that eventually became The Pig City, a background for Oh Shit!, and a little bit of another background for Oh Shit! before ending stream.

more backgroundi, macaroni (January 29, 2021)#

Watch on YouTubeThis stream starts off immediately after the last one ends. In the stream, McPig draws the rest of the background for Oh Shit! started last stream and a background for Don't Make a Sound.

Testing out stuff + Hud elements (March 30, 2021)#

Watch on YouTubeIn this stream, McPig plays through every level, refining a few room layouts as he goes along, as well as showcasing the new HUD.

  • Both the score count and the TV are much closer to the center of the screen than they are in the April 3rd 2021 build.
  • The HUD doesn't display the amount of bullets the player has.
  • The TV is missing sprites for the combo.

papa john's mansion (May 5, 2021) (LOST)#

Watch on YouTubeThis stream showcased the tiling for the April 2021 version of Mansion. The full VOD is currently lost, but this surviving clip shows the game looking very similar to April 2021, albeit with Mansion being mostly tiled, as seen in the files of later available builds.

  • This is the last known footage where the destructible blocks retain their old designs, as they'd be replaced with their Rework designs later that month.

Redesigning medieval for new knight mechanics (WIP) (May 24, 2021) (LOST)#

Watch on YouTubeThis stream was exactly what the title says. The full VOD is currently lost.

  • Pizzascape appears like a mix between its April 2021 and Rework iterations.
  • The score and TV were pushed up closer to the corners, much like it appeared in Rework.
  • The Knight transformation's moveset is similar to how it is in the final game, but more "snappy".
  • Hitting enemies and blocks at Mach 2 puts the player in the same state as when hitting a block while grabbing.
  • Blocks have been redesigned to their Rework appearance, as mentioned above.
  • Stupid Rats are also implemented now.
  • Pillar John has his final sprites, replacing the design he's had since April 2018.

Farming level redesigning (June 10, 2021)#

Watch on YouTubeIn this stream, McPig redesigns Fun Farm for Mort's new moveset, which is very similar to the final game's. This stream was on YouTube due to Twitch being down at the moment. Notable moments include:

6:53 - McPig plays a bit of Wasteyard, in which the fire transformation and ghost transformation are seen. The fire transformation is now the same as in the final game.

48:48 - McPig plays Fun Farm, showing off Mort's new moveset, though the sprites are unfinished. The potato enemies are using placeholder sprites and will move towards the player unless variable "move" is set to false.

53:32 - Concept art of Mort's new moveset appears on screen.

2:07:23 - McPig plays Wasteyard again, this time long enough to show that the ghost transformation can possess enemies as seen in the Rework build.

feed my singular eye (October 1, 2021)#

Watch on YouTubeIn this stream, McPig draws up some decorative big Johns for the background of John Gutter's first room, shows off one of the first bits of post-Rework gameplay with a run-through of the level, and then he plays Cookie Clicker. Minor spoilers; Peppino's moveset hasn't changed much, although the Mach 4 build-up nerf from the Eggplant build has been implemented. The worst of both worlds.

8:20 - The level's exit door is now placed on its special podium. This first room is also the only room to utilize the pinkish checkered backdrop at this point in development; It would later be re-added to the other rooms that had it in previous builds, around the start of 2022.

8:23 - The regular breakable blocks have now been finalized with its purple bricks, while the metal block has been replaced with a metallic recolor of those purple bricks. These would be reverted back to their 2018 design right before the release of the Eggplant build.

9:14 - The secret eye is seen for perhaps the first time. Some of them need multiple triggers to be touched in order for them to appear, a feature that was present in the Rework Build, but lacked proper sprites and didn't function properly due to a programming error.

9:22 - Dead John Blocks take at least three hits to break when not in Mach 3. Right after, the finalized small cheese blocks can be seen, as can the big cheese block in the "Super Slump" room.

9:34 - Wallrunning is still absent.

10:53 - The finalized Pizza Time timer has been implemented, however the numerical countdown is absent, and an animated sprite of Peppino's arm wearing a wristwatch is visible to the left. These sprites were disabled in the Eggplant build, however they still remain in the data.win file.

10:59 - The Dead John Blocks respawn during Pizza Time.

Peppino might or might not have learned kung fu (November 12, 2021)#

Watch on YouTubeIn this stream, McPig shows off some new moves for Peppino that replace his grab, which was reverted for the final game, and works on re-tiling Bloodsauce Dungeon with its new tileset. At the start, he also playtests the retiled Ancient Cheese that is the same as the Rework build but with the new tileset. Wall running has the same sprites as the final game and functions like it does in the Eggplant Build. Some enemies appear tinted yellow, indicating that they use their unused heat attacks by default and are harder to kill. Eyes are now used to bring to Peppino to secret rooms, but the rooms are still small.

2:00 - McPig plays through Ancient Cheese.

1:36:42 - McPig plays through Bloodsauce Dungeon.

American Peppermerican (November 18, 2021)#

2:09:20 - McPig shows a bit of GOLF, looking the same as Rework.

2:10:47 - McPig shows a bit of the early Peppibot Factory, also seemingly the same as Rework.

2:11:25 - McPig shows some Space Pinball, also the same as Rework.

2:11:56 - McPig shows the early Crust Cove, originally known as Pineapple Beach, again the same as Rework.

American Peppermerican 2 (November 19, 2021)#

1:05 - McPig shows the updated Oregano Desert again for a quick recap.

1:34 - The Pizzacar is shown properly working in-game. It acts the same as the motorcycle in the Rework build except that the pizza character Phil is in it and you have to get him out to use it. Newer builds broke it so that you cannot kill him.

3:33 - McPig gives farewell to the old Pizzamart tiles and starts making the new tiles.

P for Peter (November 26, 2021)#
