Zero Racers is an F-Zero entry that was scheduled for release in 1996 and got extensive coverage in magazines like Nintendo Power, only to be shelved (alongside Dragon Hopper and Bound High!) when Nintendo opted to pull the plug on the Virtual Boy, though its title screen/menu music would be rearranged for the Game Boy Color Promotional Demo a few years later.
It finally saw the light of day 30 years later via Virtual Boy - Nintendo Classics.

A sound test is hidden in the ROM, but is normally inaccessible. The above patch replaces the "Record" option on the main menu.
The SE and BGM items are mostly self-explanatory. BGM (MUTE) sets the music volume (the higher the value, the lower the volume) and BGM (FADE OUT) fades the music out at the specified speed. The M SHIP and E SHIP options change the properties of various ship sounds (engine noise, etc.).
Pressing Start will exit the sound test, which also resets the game.
