Unused Graphics#

Early Title Screen#

"Pro Skater. Work in Progress". Found in CD.WAD\title_h.zlb\title_h: The inscription "...©1998 Activision, Inc." below may indicate that the picture was created before the first part of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (which was released in 1999).

Unused Loading Screens#

An early loading screen simply named loading. It would have most likely featured the challenges for the level being loaded along with relevant hints. Each level has their own loading screen instead. THPS_Loading.png

Another unused loading screen named loadinggp, this one would have featured competition scores.

Placeholder#

A placeholder level select icon. Interestingly there are two copies of it, levselna and levsel06, for a nonexistent tenth level.

Unused Decks#

A variety of unused decks, including a set of nine Activision branded ones. burn01, stea06, thom02, zero01 and zero04 are also unique designs while the others are recolored versions of used decks.

Regional Differences#

  • The title was changed to "Tony Hawk's Skateboarding" in most of Europe to avoid confusion, as Activision believed that the term "pro skater" would imply ice skating to European audiences. Despite this, all future titles would retain the "Pro Skater" name in Europe.
    • Despite the name change, the logo in the background of the menus still has the "Pro Skater" name.
      • Even more strangely, the "Tony Hawk's Skateboarding" logo is used on the main menu in the Japanese version, despite the game retaining the "Pro Skater" name in Japan.
  • The European version added three more songs to the soundtrack:
    • "Ain't Got Time to Waste" - Aim featuring YZ
    • "Le Hot" - Grand Unified
    • "Blue Thunder" - Aquasky
  • The European version removed the following songs:
    • "Euro-Barge" - The Vandals
    • "Screamer/Nothing To Me" - Speedealer - Screamer/Nothing To Me
    • "Vilified" - Evenrude
  • As with many Japanese Playstation games, the Japanese version uses Circle to select menu options and X to go back in menus X to select and Triangle to go back)
    • Despite this, the original button commands can still be seen in the backgrounds in the menus.
  • "Police Truck" is uncensored in the Japanese version.
