ui_common_cnvs_pltf.dds

This file is used when either either talking to the characters in White Space or in loading screens. The images here can be found amongst them, which go unused since there is no control inputs assigned to them.

ui_common_btn_stick_pltf.dds

These are graphics that would be used when drifting around areas as Modern Sonic, just as Speed Highway and City Escape. Only the Right Stick goes unused.

ui_shop_omochao.dds

A line of Omochao graphics, apparently meant for something relating to the Skill Shop judging by the filename.

ui_cutline_m_10.dds

Appears to be some kind of hint bubble which would generate a hint somewhere in the Online Mode. The image shows that the leader board HUD would've been seen on the left side of the screen during either the Rank Time. An XNCP file can also be found in the game's files.

Unused Text#

Found in both "ui_howto_word.dds" and "ui_btn_guide_word.dds" are list of text that is used throughout the game. "ui_howto_word.dds" is used to show player controls (such as the Sega Genesis or Casino Night) and "ui_btn_guide_word.dds" is used for any button prompts throughout the game (switching characters, skipping cutscenes, ect.). Among these two image files also shows unused text that doesn't get used in the game.

Description

ui_howto_word.dds

The following text below is what goes unused, which is over half of them in this image.

  • Drift
  • Quick Step
  • Move
  • Grind Step
  • Crouch
  • Slide
  • Stomp
  • Air Boost
  • Spin Jump
  • Homing Attack
  • Partner Attack
  • Jump
  • Switch Characters
  • Custom Skill
  • Lightspeed Dash
  • Join Hands (Unknown what this action was meant for)

ui_btn_guide_word.dds

The following text below is what goes unused. (Note: Most of what these would've been used for is speculation, and is not confirmed)

  • Skills / No Skills - Could link to maybe the skills would've been used in the Online Ranking Mode or .
  • Gamer Card - Possibly to read a player's Gamer Card?
  • View Records - Either this was replaced with "Detailed Records" or was most likely changed to see the player's personal game records with the Information Pod.
  • Change Icon - Meant to change the player's icon, which most likely goes unused since they can do it on their console/device.
  • Exit Search - Meant for the 30 Second Trial. This goes unused since the player can do it over a pause screen.
  • Collection Room and Statue Room - Would've shown on screen when in the Collection/Statue Room to enter or exit the area by pressing the select button. (The "Statue Room" Graphic would later get used in Sonic X Shadow Generations)
  • Exit Demo - Only is used in Demo versions of the game.
  • Start - Was possibly meant to be used for entering a stage.

Demo Leftovers#

Careful, you'll lose an eye.

This page or section needs more images.
There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.
Specifically: Add images of the stages used in the final game for comparison

Title Screen#

Various graphics used on the title screen and end screen of the demo versions of the game.

20 Day Demo Leftovers#

Message graphics leftover from demo versions of the game.

Stages#

Found in the Demo.arl file is leftover graphics from both the 20-Day Demo and E3 Demo. Most notably, there are earlier images of the stages from older builds of the game.

There exists both Japanese and English logos for Sonic Battle in the game with the other logos used for the tracks in the collection, this could imply that a song from Sonic Battle was considered for the collection, though ultimately not included. There is a rendition of a song from Sonic Battle in the game (Emerald Beach, used for some missions), but it is not selectable in the Change Music menu.

Unused Cheese Textures#

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: Check Cheese's Eyes

Found in the "chr_cheese_mouth_dif_HD" is a set of textures of different mouth expressions meant for Cheese. Out of the eight expressions that exist for the character, only three of them go unused. What's interesting is that the two out of the three images show Cheese's teeth, which he never shows in the game.

Unused Stage Textures#

Speed Highway#

Street Signs#

In both "sph_st1_sign_p_a_dif.dds" and "sph_st1_sign_a_dif.dds" image files are several signs that are seen throughout Speed Highway, along with it being recycled from Sonic Unleashed via Skyscraper Scamper. The images below that are present in the image are what's unused from it.

Boutique#

In Speed Highway (Act 1), if the player takes the top path after jumping the glass platforms without falling to the bottom path, there is a background showing a bunch of department stores (such as clothing and media selection). There is a few texture that can be found unused in both "sph_yy_shop_boutique01_dif.dds" and "sph_yy_shop_boutique02_dif.dds".

Image

Filename

Description

sph_yy_shop_boutique01_dif.dds

Appears to be square, with a red line on the outside of the shape, followed by a rhombus on the innerside with decorative around it. It was possibly meant to be used for the flooring.

sph_yy_shop_boutique02_dif.dds

Appears to be a barcode.

sph_yy_shop_boutique02_dif.dds

Seems to be a small shelf with a small square below it, which seems to have a few price tags on it.

sph_yy_shop_boutique02_dif.dds

Unknown due to the texture quality, but seems to be a pile of clothes.

Rooftop Run#

Filename

Description

Rooftop Run

myk_wood_km_icevendor01_dif.dds

Found amongst the packed files of the stage, with other textures inside the image itself, is what appears to be several flavors along with a gauge-like graphic above it meant for the ice cream vendor which can be seen in the background of Rooftop Run (Act 1). The texture is not present though, even by hacking the game's camera. Interestingly, the filename has "myk" in it, which is meant for "Mykonos" for Windmill Isle.

Unseen Speed Highway Textures#

The stop sign in both "sph_st1_sign_p_a_dif.dds" and "sph_st1_sign_a_dif.dds" are only used once in the game, via Speed Highway (Act 1), but can only be seen briefly with a well timed Spin Dash Jump by taking top route on the rotating platforms at the beginning of the stage. There is also an image of a train, found amongst other images ("sph_builparts_km1_poster01_dif.dds"), which would've been seen like the other ones across the walls of the stages. It's barely visable in gameplay though as it is placed in the background of Speed Highway (Act 1) at the first set of platforms of the hotel lobby. The best way to view all these images in-game is by hacking the camera.

Early Speed Highway Textures#

Found in the Packed files for White Space (under "pam000") appears to possibly be texture graphics for Speed Highway that were created in early development when comparing to file in the stage itself. While some parts of it are used in White Space, there are some that go unused. Some parts of the textures can be hard to make out, specially the White Space variant due to it's image quality.

Image (White Space)

Image (Main Stage)

Differences

  • Most of the neon signs seem to be flat textures in the White Space variant. Some examples of this can be seen on the bottles and the orange sign at the bottom.
  • The "JUICE" in White Space was replaced with three stars.
  • The "DELICIOUS!" text uses a different font and color palette. (It is still used in White Space, however)
  • A pink glass bottle with "Do Rings?" had its color changed and text moved to a different sign in the final version.
  • Chaoce Cream (White Space) was changed to "Chao Gelato" (Final). The early version is still visible in White Space.
  • The sign at the bottom of the texture in White Space has text saying "Gamma to Omega", with the top right depicting the greek letters "Γ" (Gamma) and "Ω" (Omega), referencing the two characters. The stage variant has the lower text replaced with "Ring Juice", and the greek letters replaced with "Got Rings?".

Miscellaneous#

Unused Environment Map#

In the files for Casino Night, there is a environment map (cnz_test_envmap_cube) to what seems like it was used for testing purposes. These images look more so like they would be used for Speed Highway though.

Yellow Warning Sign#

A caution sign warning the player about a bottomless pit. However, instead of red, the graphic is colored yellow. It can be found just past the Goal Post in the Challenge Act, "Lord with a Board". Sonic_Generaions_Yellow_Warning_Sign.png
