Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots is (alongside SpongeBob's Atlantis SquarePantis) the very last Nickelodeon game on Game Boy Advance, and one of the last games released for the console as a whole. In fact, it seemingly was the last Game Boy Advance game released in Europe.

Like Nicktoons Unite!, it suffers from incredibly inconsistent graphics, ripped from completely different sources, including other Nickelodeon games and even some non-Nick games. It also has some ear-splittingly loud sound effects and very obnoxious padding.

Obscured Graphics#

Title Screen#

The title screen background has a black rectangle where the logo goes in. Its likely the logo was originally part of the image itself but was separated and put into a different layer so it could be reused in the main menu.

Cutscenes#

Despite being still images, the cutscene graphics are divided into multiple layers, leading to some details to be normally unseen. Note that the black bars are baked into these graphics, and aren't consistent.

Due to another layer being in front of it and how this background scrolls, most of the mountain portion goes unseen in-game.

Unused Music#

To do:
Make a proper GSF rip or an in-game recording.

A frantic sounding song and the last track in the game's data (ID 06). It was likely intended to be used in the boss battles, which strangely just use their respective worlds themes instead.

Note that this file was generated through an XM conversion made with lunasorcery's Engine Software GBA Tools and, as a result, it might not sound 100% accurate.

Song Order Oddity#

While the internal track order mostly matches the order the player would hear them during normal gameplay, track 01 is the Ghost Zone theme (the third world) and track 03 is Pupununu Village's theme (the first world). This might imply these two levels were switched around during development, likely due to Ghost Zone being a more complex and difficult level.

Regional Differences#

Language Select#

The European version adds a simple language select menu before the Health & Safety Warning screen.

German

The European versions have different formatting, a smaller and colored warning icon and a much smaller font for the "Press any button to continue" text.

German

The German copyright screens use the German titles for the shows featured in the game. They also have a slightly different font, most noticeable in the uppercase N and lowercase Y.

The German language option replaces the English logo with a German one. Interestingly, its different from the box art's logo, with the "Spongebob & Friends" part being a lazy edit of the English "Nicktoons" logo, complete with lovely Comic Sans. The background in the main menu is also slightly different in the European version, with the right portion being simply a mirror of the left one as opposed to being unique like the American version. The language select menu does use the American background though.

The English text in the "The World's Biggest Genius" game show background was translated to German. It also has a slightly lighter, more washed out color palette.
