An expanded home version of the original arcade release -- the "DX" stands for "Deluxe". The PS2 version adds an extensive campaign mode for both the Federation and Zeon forces, including a number of obscure battles from side stories. It is an arena shooter where players fight either each other or waves of enemy units. Battles use a wargame-like points system, where better units cost more to deploy and rewards the enemy more if it's destroyed. Weapons hit hard, but landing shots is very difficult unless the target's recovering from using boosters or locking down to use a heavy weapon. Matches focus on evasion and cover management, along with cagey use of homing weapons or attrition. The programming team would later split from Capcom as the series continued, first working as an independent developer, then fully absorbed into Bandai.
