"2.0 was an april fools and we aren't going to update them. If you see a bug, tough luck! ;D You're on your own, we won't support it." — Dinnerbone

On April 1st, 2013, an update was released for Minecraft, titled Minecraft 2.0 by Mojang. Select few Minecraft YouTubers were sent this update before it officially released in order to show off the... "features".

This update is merely a joke, and Mojang has said that they do not currently have any plans to release a Minecraft 2.0 that is not a joke. Don't get April Fooled!

Despite this, some of the features added in this update are now available in Minecraft; such as Horses, Coal Blocks, and Stained Glass.

Versions#

There were 3 versions of this update:

  • Red
    • Has super hostile mode
  • Blue
    • Has most of the features described here
  • Purple
    • Contains everything in Red and Blue versions

Additions#

Blocks#

Etho Slab#

The Etho Slab is essentially a TNT slab with a different name. The name was a reference to the YouTuber Ethoslab.

  • The data value of this block is 160.
    • Oddly, a copy of the block with ID 159 exists as well.
  • This block can be crafted with 3 blocks of TNT on the last few slots on the bottom.
    • This is similar to how every other slab is crafted.
  • Much like other slabs, it can be placed on the lower or upper half of a block.
  • It has the same functions as a normal block of TNT.
    • However, when the block explodes, it spawns an anvil over players in the explosion's range.

Torch (Burnt-out)#

The burnt-out torch is a version of the torch that has been burnt out after a random amount of ticks. The data value of this block is 161.

Block of Coal#

Blocks of Coal are blocks made out of coal that can be used as fuel. The data value of this block is 162, which contrasts the final block's data value of 173.

  • The block shares its crafting recipe with the final block's crafting recipe; 9 coal across the entire grid.
  • Oddly, when the block is redistributed back into coal, the coal will not be stackable.
  • This block was later added into Minecraft in 1.6.1. The block shares the same texture with this version; though, this was later updated. Twice.
  • This block seems to be a darker, grayscaled version of the Redstone Block, and appears closer to a Block of Netherite.

Tinted Glass#

Tinted glass is a new block added that is essentially a colored glass block. The data value of this block is 163, which contrasts with the final block's data value of 241.

  • The block shares its crafting recipe with the final block's crafting recipe; 8 glass surrounding a dye of the player's choosing.
  • The block has "block data" values ranging from 0-15 that specify the color of the glass. Wool's block data values produce the same colors when used on tinted glass.
  • Tinted glass was added to the game under the name stained glass. The texture in 13w41a shared its textures with the 2.0 version, but this was later changed in 13w42a, only to be changed again in 19w08a.

(Note: This only shows the RED stained glass.)

Mobs#

Horse#

Horses and ponies are mobs that can be ridden similar to pigs, except that the horse requires wheat instead of a carrot on a stick.

  • Unlike the horses introduced later in 1.6.1, these horses come in shetland pony (pig) and horse (cow).
  • The shetland pony drops raw porkchop, and the horse drops raw beef.
  • Textures are called pig_horse and cow_horse.
  • These horses can sometimes be obtained when cows or pigs are spawned with a spawn eggs.

Friendly Wither/Pink Wither#

The Friendly Wither is a new mob that is attracted to sugar, restores health to all surrounding mobs, and applies bone meal to all eligible neighboring blocks.

  • It also has the ability to grow roses, dandelions, grass and ferns on grass blocks, due to the bone meal.
  • This mob starts off with one head, and feeding the Friendly Wither sugar will grow another head (up to three) and increase the range of these effects.
  • Friendly Withers are spawned by placing pink wool, with a flower pot containing a rose on top.
  • Just like their evil counterpart, they drop nether stars.
  • It is still classified as a hostile mob, though its behavior is not hostile.
    • The Friendly Wither is also considered undead, and will be hurt by potions of Healing and healed by potions of Harming.
    • This is because the Friendly Wither has the same entity ID as the Wither.
  • The Friendly Wither has no health bar.
  • In the version .jar file, the texture is named wither_pink.

Diamond Chickens#

The diamond chicken is a new mob that very rarely spawns instead of a normal chicken.

  • The mob has a chance of laying diamonds or lapis lazuli instead of eggs.
  • They do so at a much slower rate than normal chickens lay eggs.
  • The mob explodes when aggravated.

Redstone Bug#

The redstone bug is a new mob that has the appearance and behavior of a silverfish, but their body is a shade of red that is the same as the redstone they spawn over; depending on if it's turned on or off. It spawns when a redstone error is activated, on the spot of the error.

General#

Options#

There is now an option for Super HD Graphics. When this option is turned on, it makes all textures monochrome except for recolored/secondary layer textures, such as grass side overlay or the colored glass. Super HD Graphics mode does not, however, change the performance of the game.

Super Hostile Mode#

"Super Hostile Mode" is a new occasional event that happens every 2–5 minutes on Purple version, and randomly in every other version. This event consists of a shower of lightning bolts around the player (usually striking the player at least once), while spawning a large number of powerful monsters in the area and applying the Blindness status to the player. These spawns include not only heavily armed and armored zombies and skeletons, and multiple charged creepers, but even the occasional Blaze and other monsters that don't usually spawn in the Overworld. This is a reference to Vechs' Super Hostile series of maps. All of these are apparently triggered by "punching wood" or crafting anything. Naturally, these are some of the first things a survival player will need to do.

Changes#

Blocks#

Droppers#

Droppers have been renamed to floppers, and will change anything they drop to a fish.

Furnaces#

Furnaces have a random chance (with each item smelted) of overheating (producing large amounts of smoke), and eventually exploding.

  • The explosion is at least as powerful as a TNT block.
  • The explosion created also causes damage to blocks, even if submerged in water.
  • It will smelt about 3-7 items before exploding.
  • However, it's based on burn time, not items, so a piece of coal will always ignite it.

Torches#

Torches now burn out over time. They can, however, be relit with flint and steel.

item#

Coal#

Also known as Fools' Coal, when crafted Block of Coal back into regular coal, the produced coal does not stack with other coal in the inventory, due to having a data value of 32767. This is a deleted discontinued feature as it will turn to normal coal upon upgrading to 17w47a (1.13 snapshot) or later.

Mobs#

Pigs, mooshrooms, cows, sheep and chickens#

They can be fed to make them fat. The tenth time they are fed, they will explode.

  • New tag Fatness with a default value of 0 and increases every time an animal is fed breeding food.
  • Animal models grow larger as they get fatter (except for chickens).
  • Reaching 10 Fatness triggers an explosion that does zero block damage.
  • Exploded animals drop up to double their Fatness value in items.

Chickens#

Chickens are now a neutral mob, and will sometimes spawn reinforcements when killed. They will also attack you when you look at them.

Sheep#

Using a golden apple on sheep makes them fly.

Zombie Pigmen#

Zombie Pigmen now carry "Battlesigns" instead of golden swords.

Other#

Mobs can have a rare chance of escaping fences and glass panes. Smaller mobs have a larger chance.

General#

Speech bubbles#

Blocks and mobs can have speech bubbles containing text above their heads, simulating talking. Below is a list of all quotes uttered by mobs/blocks.

  • "That hurts :("
  • "My eye!"
  • "..zzZZZ"
  • "Why!?"
  • "I'll be back!"
  • "You didn't ...."
  • "Oof"
  • "(&%!@*#&%!@$#"
  • "Ouch"
  • "Hi there!"
  • "That tickles"
  • "Who's there!"
  • "I thought we were friends"
  • "You're mean!"
