This is a sub-page of Proto:Gran Turismo 2.
This Japanese demo build of Gran Turismo 2 is the latest prerelease version of the game available to the general public, released as a standalone disc aptly titled Gran Turismo 2 Test Drive Disc (PAPX-90054). It is dated two months and one week before the initial Japanese retail build.

Menu sound effects are mostly the same as in the final product now, with discrepancies being the pitch of one clip and crackles persisting to an extent.

The HUD received a few updates since the last demo, with two minor changes being the addition of black outlines around the numbers on the tachometer and "Course Record" being shortened to just "Record."

The most notable change is the addition of time difference values displayed when checkpoints are crossed. However, these always behave like in Time Attack mode at this point, comparing the current lap's performance to that of the course's record instead of the race leader.
Demonstration Replays#
A set of five unique attract replays is used in this build:

This is notably the last known build to make use of the replay directory in GT2.VOL. All of its contents remain unused in the initial Japanese retail version of the game, while all but the zero-byte .000 and .999 files are omitted from builds starting with the initial North American release.

The song list present in the previous demos' data is trimmed down to just two entries here. It is located at 0x5B7BC in GT2.EXE.
Opponent and Event Data#
The inaccessible sample race events and their related opponent data received a few updates in this last demo build.
A new event has shown up in carparam/arcade_data.dat. This is mostly a copy of DEMO02, with the only difference being that it takes place on Special Stage Route 5 (highway) instead of Laguna Seca Raceway (laguna).
