To do:
There are several other cars that has differences, all of them are documented in this video. Also from what builds they originate?

Apart from being removed, some cars had design and/or texturing changes before release. Cars whose changes amounted to different wheel images are not currently included below, as that would be nearly all cars. In particular, many of them uses a placeholder wheel consisting of a checkerboard pattern, or use GT1-style hexagonal wheels (GT2 uses circular wheel textures instead, as it no longer requires tire wall textures).

This page also covers repurposed cars; for instance, cars that were originally intended to be their racing modification of an existing road car, but spun off into a separate car.

Daihatsu#

Daihatsu Move Aero Custom '98

Demo Version

Final Version

One of the built-in Arcade Mode cars, the Daihatsu Move Aero Custom '98 had its license plate changed from gray to body-color. Additionally, a "Move" logo was added to the rear and rendering errors on the Move logo along the side were fixed.

It is also worth noting that the car logo as used in the hidden Home Garage list has missing background transparency, although the logo used in the Class C preset have them.

For the Nissan Stagea 260 RS '98 racing modification:

  • The rear spoiler was changed.
  • The Nismo logo on the rear was removed.
  • A Bridgestone logo was added to the front, as on the rear window.

The 1997 equivalent also received similar changes.

Nismo 270R

Test Drive Demo

Final Version

Added in the Test Drive demo, the Nismo 270R originally had additional color options other than black, but no side decals or wheels.

Curiously, one of them is orange, possibly a coincidental reference to Kenta Nakamura's S14 Silvia from Initial D, although he drives a standard Q's model in that series.

Nissan Pulsar VZ-R N1 '97

Demo Version

Final Version

The Nissan Pulsar VZ-R N1 '97 was to feature the optional VZ-R logo branding on the side of the car. That side texture were originally broken in the July and August demos, as well its brake lights and blanked out wheels, but the Test Drive demo fixed those while adding a new issue where the front bumper is completely white on the night version of the car. In the final game, a plain white or black scheme without those side decals was used instead.

Nissan R390 GT1 Road Car '98

Demo Version

Final Version

The Nissan R390 GT1 Road Car '98 had its front number plate edited out (possibly due to mirroring issues). Additionally, the car's internal name was changed from n240n to n24nn, to split it from the racing counterpart; a similar internal name change also apply to its 1997 counterpart.

Nissan Skyline (R32, non-GT-R; racing modification)

  • 1990 Nismo: BP
  • 1993 V-Spec and 1994 V-Spec II: Axia Trampio (from what was the 1991 model in the demos, but with Axia logos removed)

Final Version

For the standard Subaru Impreza WRX '98, the body was made rounder, and the WRX and Subaru logos on the rear was made less distinctive. The rear license plate was also blanked out.

Suzuki Cappuccino

Demo Version

Final Version

The Suzuki Cappuccino has multiple variations of the three colors it has on the actual model (silver, red, and green) as the developers experimented on which shade to use. The final game ended up using shades of red and green that was too dark compared to the actual car (with the green chosen being also overly bluish).

Suzuki Cappuccino (racing modification)

Demo Version

Final Version

By contrast, the racing modification of the aforementioned car only has two colors.

To do:
Replace the final image with RS/Z's final RM, current comparison is misleading as the RS/X '90 RM is unchanged in any build barring filename change.

Suzuki Alto Works RS/X '90, RS/Z '97

July Demo

Final Version

The car named x2aln/x2alr originally contained the Suzuki Alto Works RS/Z '97 in the July demo builds, which has an different alternate color for its Advan livery (black/yellow, instead of white/red) and broken front window palettes. This car was moved to x2azn/x2azr in later builds.

Toyota#

Toyota Altezza (racing modification)

Demo Version

Final Version

The racing modification for the Toyota Altezza, also serving as placeholder race car body starting from the August demo build, was originally the Netz Castrol Super Taikyu livery, which was changed to be based on the Espelir Gialla livery instead (note the website features the 2000 car, however the same livery was also used in the 1999 season). The Tom's 280T retained this livery, but did make a change to it where the Enkei logos on the front now have shading and no longer mirrored on the right-hand side. The "Castrol Mugen Accord" in the final game does still have the demo version of the racing Altezza, however.

It is also worth noting that in the July demos (where it did not yet take the role of placeholder race car body), there are logos for Zent, a pachinko chain, that were removed from subsequent builds. The Zent logos were also edited out from the 1999 Toyota GT-One (based on the car that participated in the 1999 Le Mans Fuji 1000 km race, where it had such logos) in the final build of the game (the car had no textures yet in the demos), but not from the Toyota Castrol Tom's Supra GT (JGTC) '99. (While later games in the series refrained from including cars with Zent primary sponsorship, the 2000 version of the Castrol Supra, as well as the Toyota TS030 Hybrid '12, does have Zent logos on them, however.)

Toyota Celica GT-R (ST183) '91

July Demo

Final Version

The Toyota Celica GT-R (ST183) '91 has its logos from text license plate removed, as well as rear badges added and "Twin Cam 16" logo on the sides added starting from the August demos.

Audi A4

Demo Version

Final Version

On the BMW 323ti Compact, the trim around the bottom of the body and the license plates were recolored to that of the body as opposed to just black. Wheels were added, while the grill on the front was made into a single piece rather than multiple.

Mini and MG#

Mini Cooper 1.3i

July Demo

Final Version

In the July demo builds, the Mini Cooper 1.3i only has three colors.

Additionally, in the Arcade Mode, the Rover manufacturer logo was removed. The car's placement in Class C still reflects the manufacturer-based alphabetical sorting (being placed between Peugeot 206 S16 and the Suzuki Alto Works RS/Z '98).

Present only in the Test Drive demo is the Citroen Xsara Rally Car acting as the racing modification for the Citroën Xsara 1.8i 16V Exclusive, which would be spun off as a separate car in the final game.

  • The red color option was removed; ironically enough, the real car that it is based on is red with white roof.
  • The rear wing was strangely moved from the rear trunk to the roof.
  • The road car's wheels are used.

Lancia#

Final Version

Only two colors were initially available for the Venturi Atlantique 300.

  • The nameplate no longer changes according to the body color chosen in the final game.

Dodge#

Dodge Concept Car LM Edition

Demo Version

Final Version

The Dodge Concept Car LM Edition originally reused the Special Color variation of the Dodge Concept Car as appearing in the first game (fittingly, the car's internal name is d-phr, which belonged to the special color Concept Car in that game), albeit with wheels sourced from Honda Raybrig NSX GT '99. These two colors returned in the final game for the Concept Car's racing modification, which features body kit from the final Concept Car LM.

Dodge Viper RT/10

Demo Version

Final Version

Dodge Viper GTS

Demo Version

Final Version

Both the Dodge Viper GTS and Dodge Viper RT/10 had their color options changed to reflect the 1999 model year colors in the final game. This means that the blue/white stripe color had to go.

Ford and Mercury#

Mercury Cougar '99

Demo Version

Final Version

Both the European Ford Cougar 2.5i 24V '99 and American Mercury Cougar are only available in Dark Tourmaline/Ash Gold Clearcoat Metallic in the demos.

Additionally, in the Arcade Mode, the car appears only with Mercury badging, while in the final game the car appears with both Ford and Mercury logos (presumably due to the fact Mercury cars are sold from the Ford dealership in the game). This did not affect its placement in the Arcade Mode, as Arcade Mode cars are alphabetically sorted by their manufacturer (the cars between this car are the Daihatsu Move Aerodown Custom and the MG MGF 1.8i VVC).

Ford Focus 1.8i Zetec

Demo Version

Final Version
