Unused Games

This is a sub-page of Wii Party U.

Unused Minigames#

nmg307 (おぼえるクッキング)#

A 1-vs-rivals minigame that appears in the internal developer scene list but has no compiled RPL in any known region (EU, US or JP). Based on footage found in the game's files, players appear to memorize and sort vegetables into baskets in a kitchen setting. Asset folders and instruction bins are present in all versions, suggesting it was further along in development than the other cut minigames before being removed. Interestingly, a minigame under the same Japanese name おぼえるクッキング (Recipe Recall) appears in the final game as nmg454, however, it was repurposed as a 4-player free-for-all minigame rather than the original 1-vs-rivals format that nmg307 was designed for. This suggests nmg307 was not fully scrapped but reworked and reassigned to a different game mode during development. This minigame also has some mginst graphics, these are used for the minigame instruction screen.

nmg403 Unnamed Digging Game#

nmg403 has no compiled RPL so it's not playable in the final build of the game. However, the image for the minigame is still leftover. The game seems to be a digging minigame.

nmg409 Unnamed Flower Watering Game#

A 4-player minigame where players use the Wii Remote pointer to water flowers growing from the ground. The game logic is fully compiled and functional. It has no sound group registered in the NEXPY_SOUND BFSAR archive, confirming it was cut before audio implementation was completed.

Unused assets related to this game reveal it originally had a different scoring system from what the final game's framework would suggest:

Flowers Watered

Points

2

1

4

5

7

15

8

25

Graphic buttons for a score table viewer (点数表を見る "View score table") and a close button (閉じる "Close") are also present in the asset folder.

Well, interestingly enough. Inside the compiled RPL for nmg409. Is absolutely no mention of nmg409. Instead the game believes it is nmg427. For nmg427 it thinks it is nmg409.

Empty Slots#

  • nmg307 is not playable. It has instruction images, a video file, a title texture.
  • nmg409 is not normally available, however is finished other than music and audio.
  • nmg403 has one image file left that we currently know about.
  • nmg419 has no trace left, as far as we know.

Unused Party Games#

npg005 Ghost Hunters#

npg005 has no compiled RPL file left. However it seems to have been very finished before being scrapped. Judging by its main game image, you seem to collect cards. That's all we can be sure about. There are text image files (in Japanese) for like dash cards, zombie orbs, ghost cards and jump cards and ghost hunter.

However there is more because leftover in the ch_base there are some ghost eyes! Ripped from Wii Party naturally.

This image on both sides can be flipped to get another pair of eyes, Smart way to save space! Well, Minus the fact its unused. However, more impressive is the body textures for the ghosts themselves exist in the game files.

The textures are pretty finished! There are 10 different animations, involving, 2 Types of catching animations, 2 Types of damage animations and one for moving around.

This is a dice map with only 1 or 5 sides. This dice however, is missing a light map so it can't be loaded. This links to Ghost Hunters because there is a 1 or 5 card leftover. It is possible in the development this dice was used when you got the card! Not to mention the model for the dice itself states its npg005. Just in case there is any doubt

This is a regular ghost model.

This is a map file, this tells the game how the map should be lit.

This is a more detailed ghost model, it has 2 variations, one with legs and one without!

npg013 Friend Connection#

The game has nothing left in the files other than its title texture. Judging from the name, it was likely meant to be a Wii Party U version of Friend Connection. There is music left over in the files for this mode, sharing the same ID with Tabletop Foosball. The song used in Foosball repurposes the unused song (although in a slightly different arrangement).

npg013 Unused Theme

npg015 Nervous Breakdown#

The name is a literal Japanese to English translation of Memory. It is safe to assume that npg015 was going to be a GamePad Party Game, due to the card game being two player.

npg019 Clap Clap Rhythm#

This could have been a rhythm game for Wii Party U. Sadly, nothing other than this title texture exists for the game.

npg025 Heart Pounding Touch#

The details of this party mode is unknown, due to its vague name.

npg034 Minigame Derby#

This could be another minigame mode similarly to Battle of the Minigames.

npg037 Unnamed GamePad Camera Game#

A House Party minigame that uses the Wii U GamePad camera. The game is a metal detector game. Where the aim is to use the gamepad to search the room and find an object. Then the audible beeping gets faster as you get closer and then you dig with the Wii Remote. However the game seemingly can only give the leaf as a reward, since there seems to be nothing else for the game to pick.

Unlike nmg409, npg037 has no bin files in the common bin folder, suggesting it was cut before localization was started. It also has no sound group in the BFSAR archive. Weirdly enough, the games rpl links to NPG001's sound group.

Now time for unused models! While a leaf is the only object you can get, there is a BNFM file of a diamond.
