Early Game Images

This is a sub-page of Wii Party U.

Early Images

Leftovers inside the game's files are images from early development.

GamePad Island (npg001)#

This image has slightly incomplete lighting, but is otherwise fairly complete. The outline for the map is less bold than the final. The player UI is rounder. The mark for the Mii difficulty is very close to the Miis icon. There is no divider between the difficulty and the Mii.

Mii Fashion Plaza (npg002)#

This image has duller lighting. The image for the clothes only shows the clothes once. There is a Mii next to the shop that isn't there in the final. The buildings are more corporate, having glass door entrances compared to the final's more home-like design. The space for the shop is a default reused star while the final has a unique design.

Team Building (npg003)#

This is Team Building. However, at this point in development it was Poker. Eventually the Football style was added in to make sure it was family-friendly. The game is called Mii Poker in the Japanese game, and POKER internally. The OK is in the middle. The round number is visible.

Lost-and-Found Square (npg004)#

Very similar to the final, except for lighting and the lost pet having a pitch-black GamePad Screen instead of color. There is also a small grey rectangle in the top right corner. Instead of all the Miis having cat or dog heads, they are just the Mii without the heads.

Button Smashers (npg006)#

Nearly identical to final. The design of this matches with the January 2013 direct showcase of this game. The bottom part of the strap is visible as opposed to the final, where it is invisible.

Feed Mii! (npg007)#

Every player can choose two items. They seem to have had to order via Wii Remote.

Name That Face (npg008)#

There is a photo of Wario from Super Mario 64DS. This is largely the same, but with the UI more so resembling Friend Connection.

The Balldozer (npg009)#

Sketchy Situation (npg010)#

Tabletop Gauntlet (npg012)#

The course has several minor differences. The middle section is not made of cardboard. There are no arrows. There's a different model for the swinging ball and no finish checkerboard pattern at the end part.

Compatibility Check (npg013)#

Compatibility Check and the other cut modes are lacking a fully made image.

Mii-in-a-Row (npg014)#

The number of tokens left is visible at all times with no toggle.

Nervous Breakdown (npg015)#

Do U Know Mii? (npg017)#

Very unfinished shading and the Miis are standing, because animations weren't made for this party game yet.

Dance with Mii (npg018)#

The Miis all have a neutral expression. The shading is unfinished. There are no flowers in the bushes.

Clap Clap Rhythm (npg019)#

Tabletop Baseball (npg021)#

The grass is slightly greener. The Mii icons have no shading.

Tabletop Foosball (npg022)#

The timer and score textures are the same ones used throughout the game. The rim of the goal is blue or red.

Puzzle Blockade (npg023)#

The percentage complete is not set. The overall light is brighter compared to the final. The end result UI is a grey transparent square with the end result. In the final it has a white border around it and is bigger.

Animal Matchup (npg024)#

The heart texture and background are different.

Heart Pounding Touch (npg025)#

Tabletop Minigames (npg026)#

The rating button is pink instead of yellow. There are a bunch of grey icons. There are no ticks for played minigames. The back button is also flipped compared to what is in the final game and it also has sharper edges than the final game.

Highway Rollers (npg027)#

The texture on the road is brighter and also more realistic, and overall the lighting is brighter. The Mii is missing its proper outfit and the map showing the other Miis is missing. The pole with the current spaces is yellow compared to the final's more orange, and there are no Miis on the highway. The water texture is different. The spaces left texture is missing some text. Finally, the current place the Mii is located is missing the last place boost spaces that are in the final game.

Minigame Collection (npg029)#

The background is a flat blue fading to white, as opposed to the final's 3D background. The description text for the mode is bigger than the final. Cliff Riders (401) is car-related. Shutterbird (402) has a blue background for the bird needed to be photographed. The cut digging minigame (403) is present here. Jumping Target (406) has a different perspective change, and more yellowish and reddish colors on the board. R/C Drifters (412) has a very different perspective change. Domino Tally (415), the tally is black instead of white.

Battle Of The Minigames (npg030)#

This image was very clearly taken before they properly finished the RPL, due to it just being a render of all the assets. There are no minigame icons floating around and the lighting is much duller.

Bridge Burners (npg031)#

The heart icon is different and shading and lighting are a small bit unfinished.

Demolition Row (npg032)#

The background is a galaxy. The background also has blocks that are meant to be buildings. Purple was replaced with orange in the final game. The stars are just black but are blue or red in the final game. The game looks very flat.

Spot The Sneak (npg033)#

This is actually the image used in game, however, it is only part of the locked variant in the Japanese version. The floor is very reflective.

Minigame Derby (npg034)#

Dojo Domination (npg035)#

The Miis to fight have grey clothes, compared to the final's white. The number display shows 2 digits. However, the final has 1 digit that goes to 2 when you get more than 9. The text is also black. The hearts-left is less transparent, and is blacker. The heart textures have a white outline and a more shiny heart. Party Penny is replaced with Party Phil, and the Mii hitting the gong is missing. The final Mii is on a higher pedestal, with there being more stairs. The text where the final Mii is located is in a different style. The wood is more yellowish and you can see more sun going through the windows. The middle of the room is less bright and the camera angle is facing slightly more upwards and is closer than the final's angle.

Water Runners (npg036)#

This is similar. The indicator around the jug is a line in the final version instead of a rope. The background is smaller and is missing the Miis and there are debug graphs.

Tabletop Tournament (npg038)#

Party Penny is standing far away. In the final she is in the middle. The board that shows the results is a bracket chart, compared to the final which is a simple wins and losses counter. The display is more solid, while the final is more transparent and the checkerboard floor is dull compared to the final's shiny ringed floor. The background has fewer lines and they are spaced further away from each other. It is also missing the circles floating around and the color is in general a duller yellow compared to the red to orange to yellow of the final. The Miis in the back are in a default pose, where in the final they have animations of waiting. The stand for the GamePad is very basic, being a grey circle with a beige top, compared to the final's shiny, golden platform. The GamePad is a very basic model, being black, compared to the final one which has the details like the IR sensor.

Early Freeplay Images

Originally freeplay minigames would have been locked. This idea was scrapped and yet they still left the images for these leftovers. So we get a view into the minigames.

Balloon Boppers (nmg602)#

In the prototype Balloon Boppers every player has 2 lives opposed to the final's 1. The hammer is black in the middle, white at the edges and orange for the rest. There is no life counter. The arena is more square. It is missing the hammer icon in the middle of the arena. It is brown and seemingly made of wood. There are proper ring borders as opposed to the final's bouncy castle-esque material. There are no stairs going into it. The background also has some changes, for starters, it is lacking background Miis cheering. The brick texture where there are normally tables is less pronounced. The tables and seats are missing. The lighting is vastly different and is darker. The camera angle is more overhead, showing less of the outside than the final.

Snap Judgement (nmg603)#

The bulbs on the stand are off. There is a red border. The floor is a checkerboard blue, as opposed to the final's yellow clean floor. The bulbs are bigger. There are triangles on the stand. There are colored boxes around the room. The camera is more zoomed in. There are 2 arches, inside them is very blue. The middle Mii is grey instead of the final purple color. The round number is more squared compared to the final's roundness.

Apple Scramble (nmg604)#

This is very early on. The camera is more overhead. The insides of the house are empty. There are no Miis waving outside the windows. The apples have more proper color, having more variation to them. The plants in pots hanging on the window sills are gone. There are no pots outside on the path. You can see a 2nd floor building due to the camera angle, which does have a pot.

Big Bang Blasters (nmg605)#

This old photo suggests you can all shoot at the same time instead of taking turns like in the final. This makes it a lot more chaotic and hard to track who shot it down. The round numbers are naturally missing from the prototype. The scores are at the bottom as opposed to the final, where they are on the side.
