This is a sub-page of The Simpsons Game (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360).
The Old-Gen version of The Simpsons Game was actually based on early builds of the New-Gen version. Rebellion began developing the game for older platforms around the same time EA was creating the New-Gen version. Because the gameplay and character movesets hadn’t yet been finalized, things were still quite flexible, leading Rebellion’s version to diverge somewhat from EA’s. Fortunately, Rebellion got enough right for EA to be happy with the results, so they allowed certain differences to remain instead of insisting the levels match exactly. Time constraints also played a major role, as EA wanted every version to launch around the same time to take advantage of the game’s overall marketing push.
Additionally, some levels were designed by Rebellion and others by EA Redwood Shores. While both versions share the same core design, they run on different engines, so certain puzzles were cut from each version due to time or complexity. In some cases, areas were redesigned by EA Redwood Shores after Rebellion had already locked in their design, which explains many of the smaller gameplay and layout differences between versions.

General Differences#
Gameplay#
General
- In the Old-Gen version, every character has access to a jump kick ability, which was originally planned for the New-Gen version but ultimately scrapped.
- The unique character power-ups from the New-Gen version are replaced with generic invincibility power-ups in the Old-Gen version.
- In the Old-Gen version, Power can only be obtained by defeating enemies.
- Falling into pits or drowning in the Old-Gen version does not deplete your health bar.
- Reviving your buddy in the Old-Gen version does not consume any power.
Homer
- Homer’s Burp Stun ability is removed in the Old-Gen version.
- The physics for the Homerball ability differ from the New-Gen version.
- In the Old-Gen version, Homerball and Gummi-Homer have separate power bars, each filled with specific food items.
- While using Power Burp, Homer cannot move in the Old-Gen version.
- Gummi-Homer has an additional ability in the Old-Gen version called Gummi Blast, which damages nearby enemies in a radius.
Bart
- Bart can collect limited ammo pickups in the Old-Gen version that deal extra damage, while his default slingshot ammo remains unlimited.
- Bart’s Power Shot ability from the New-Gen version is replaced with Bat Swarm, which attacks all enemies in a radius.
- In the Old-Gen version, in episodes featuring Bart, only Bart is able to pull levers.
Lisa
- Lisa’s Saxophone Stun, Buddha Smash, and Lightning attacks do not require power in the Old-Gen version.
- The Hand of Buddha has no visible boundary while in use in the Old-Gen version.
- Lisa’s Power Flick is replaced with the Buddha Smash in the Old-Gen version.
- Lisa’s Freeze attack is completely removed in the Old-Gen version.
- Malibu Stacy Seals are referred to as Malibu Stacy Coupons in the Old-Gen version.
Marge
- In episodes featuring Marge (after Bargain Bin), her mob members will use ranged attacks to target enemies in the Old-Gen version.
- While using the Megaphone Blowback, Marge cannot move in the Old-Gen version.
- In the Old-Gen version, you can revive knocked-out mob members the same way you revive a buddy.
- Once revived, mob members stay in your mob instead of running away like in the New-Gen version.
- During Maggie Mode, Maggie is faster and has the ability to jump in the Old-Gen version.

Mob Rules
In the Old-Gen version of Mob Rules, there are unique mob voicelines for Agnes Skinner, Principal Skinner, and Smithers. Agnes doesn’t appear at all in this version, making her lines unused, and while Skinner and Smithers do appear in the Old-Gen version, the New-Gen version doesn’t include mob voicelines for them. Since these lines are tied specifically to Mob Rules, it’s likely they were originally meant to be recruitable mob members and have a bigger role in the episode for the New-Gen version.

A Lisa voiceline likely intended for the DS version, but oddly it’s not present in that version. A similar line does appear in the Wii prototype, but it’s assigned to Bart instead. Based on the chatter type react_tetris, it was likely meant for Lisa’s Tetris-style section in the DS version of the episode.
