Oddities

This is a sub-page of The Simpsons Game (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360).

There are quite a bit of oddities throughout the game, mostly remnants from early versions.

Cutscene Oddities#

3D Cutscene Leftovers#

SimpsonsGame360-MOB_IGC023D.png

Because the final 2D cutscenes were added late in development at FOX's request who felt the 3D-to-2D method didn't deliver "on-model" results, many scenes didn't get fully redone in time. As a result, some cutscenes still include leftover assets from their original 3D versions.

  • One major example is in the cutscene "Gimme Your Ride, Jerk!" where Martin throws Ned out of his car. For a brief moment, the 3D version of the cutscene plays before switching back to 2D once the car leaves the frame.
  • Another example is "A Stairway To Heaven", where as the camera pans upwards into the sky, the footage fades into the early 3D version before cutting back to 2D after the doors to Heaven close.

Skinner Confesses#

SimpsonsGame360-BRT_IGC03GAS.png

In this cutscene, the space gas station model is still visible inside the planetarium. Originally, there was going to be a button on the gas station that dropped a ladder, allowing Homer to climb up and balance the satellite (like a seesaw) so Bart could reach Jimbo. This element was removed from the New-Gen version but still appears in the Old-Gen version.

Alien Invasion#

SimpsonsGame360-FMV-GAMEIGC02-LARDLAD.png

The sign on top of Lard Lad Donuts was originally a billboard advertisement for Powersauce Bars, along with the building to the right of it being pink instead of green. The Powersauce billboard and pink building can be seen in various earlier prototypes of the game, along with the game's episode replay icon. This shot is also a 3D cutscene leftover as Lard Lad is 3D.

SimpsonsGame360-FMV-GAMEIGC02-02.png

The Sit-N-Rotate is placed across from Hailstone's instead of next to it. There's an extra road segment in the mall area, instead of being a parking lot.

SimpsonsGame360-FMV-GAMIGC02-01.png

When the aliens begin to invade Springfield, the town looks noticeably different from how it's seen in-game, with various buildings and changes in the overall layout.

Lard Lad#

SimpsonsGame360-SCD_IGC03Hotel.png

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel for Transients and other background buildings appear purple instead of their final tan color. Oddly, the 3D cutscene version has the correct coloring.

SimpsonsGame360-SCD_IGC01Burger.png

Krusty Burger is seen next to Lard Lad Donuts, instead of near the Springfield Penitentiary like in the actual game. The nearby road also curves rather than running straight.

Eat Fist, Lard Crotch!#

Simpsons360-FMV-LARDCROTCHSTADIUM.png

During the scene where Bart tells Homer to show some dignity in victory, you can briefly spot stadium lights and bleachers in the background. These are leftovers from an earlier version of the episode, where each hatch phase took place in a different part of the industrial zone, with the final phase happening inside Duff Stadium. Voicelines related to this scrapped sequence still exist in earlier builds.

A Yokel is Abducted#

SimpsonsGame360-SSS_IGC01Mall.png

The Springfield Mall area is much more open in this cutscene, lacking the terrain chunks used as barriers throughout the episode. These barriers are also absent in the Old-Gen version. Additionally, Hailstone's is missing its sign on the building.

Cheating#

Simpsons360-FMV-ALIENINVASIONHOSPITAL.png

When Kang and Kodos begin destroying Springfield, you can briefly see Springfield Hospital in the background. This is a leftover from an earlier version of the Springfield hub world, where the hospital was still part of the map. It can also be seen in the E3 prototype.

Confronting God#

SimpsonsGame360-FMV-GAMEIGC07-01.png

Springfield looks noticeably different from how it's seen in-game, with various buildings and changes in the overall layout.

Filename Oddities#

Many models used in the game are intended for other episodes that they don't actually appear in.

Shadow of the Colossal Donut

Springfield

Originally, there was a Powersauce Bars billboard on top of Lard Lad Donuts. When Lard Lad fired his laser at it, Powersauce Bars would fall to the ground for Homer to eat.

sss_loudspeaker

Invasion of the Yokel-Snatchers

Lisa the Treehugger

This model was also likely intended for a conversation with Kang and Kodos inside the UFO, as evident by some voicelines present in a Wii prototype.

sss_destroyedtacotruck

Invasion of the Yokel-Snatchers

Shadow of the Colossal Donut

Remnants of the Taco-Mat trucks appear in the Old-Gen version, which spit out tacos for Homer to eat.

sss_gloxnarduff_v2

A texture intended to be shown on the trucks around the mall. A similar looking texture can be found in the Old-Gen version of this episode.

scd_suspendgirder_fulcrum

Shadow of the Colossal Donut

Invasion of the Yokel-Snatchers

This model was supposed to be attached to a crane (which would function like a fulcrum) in the construction area of the episode, as evident by some early screenshots and the Wii prototype.

Medal of Homer

An unused model for an explosive barrel that would have been seen in Lisa the Treehugger

  • The internal names and some string labels for Lisa's Power Flick upgrade call it the "Power Smash". This suggests it was either a different ability at one point, possibly like the Buddha Smash from the Old-Gen version, or just an earlier name for the same move.

Cliché Oddities#

In the simpsons_scores.lua file, some clichés are listed with earlier names that were not used in-game.

Crate

Wooden Crate

Earlier name used in the E3 demo and Wii prototype.

Earlier name used in the E3 demo and Wii prototype.

Water Warp

Can't Swim

Earlier name used in the E3 demo and Old-Gen version.

Tutorial Hell

Lame Tutorials

Earlier name used in the E3 demo and Wii prototype.

  • Along with the early names, the internal name for the "Rift Portal" cliché (Cliche_Portal_SprHub) was originally linked to Springfield, not Enter the Cheatrix like in the final game.

Hidden Geometry#

The Simpsons' house has a photo of Marge, which isn't visible due to an invisible barrier and the locked camera movement never panning over to where it is. It's located next to the photo of Homer that is visible on the right of the TV. It also appears to be lifted and cropped out from a Season 2 episode.

Behind the grocery store in Springfield, there is an El Barto graffiti 0.04 units inside a wall, making it invisible.

During the alien invasion, the Springfield Mall is a lot more open, lacking the terrain chunks around the area.
