This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion. |
After saving the world from space mutants, Bart's now against it apparently. This is a port of the NES version with improved graphics but missing some content.
Port Differences#
Compared to the NES version, this port is missing:
- The practice mode
- All cutscenes, including the game intro and the different endings
- Several background music tracks are missing (this game version has only two music tracks)
- The stage names in the stage select map
HP#
In the NES version, Bart loses a life after taking 5 hits but his HP is completely healed after each stage. In this version, Bart loses a life after taking 4 hits, and he is not healed between stages.
In the NES version, 5 blue circles represent Bart's HP; they disappear whenever Bart takes a hit. In this version, there are 4 blue circles, which turn into red circles when he takes a hit.
Ammo#
In the NES version, the ammo counter includes the number of available pellets; it also displays a single red circle if the player has one or more ammo. However, in this version, the red circle serves no purpose: it appears permanently in the ammo counter regardless of the player having any ammo. Confusingly, this may look like Bart has lost 1 HP since it looks like the HP red circles for lost points.
Stages#
The quiz and slot machine minigames are missing.
In the Ice Cave stage from the NES version, touching the stationary stalactites and stalagmites hurts Bart (except the ones that block the way at the end of the level), but none of them hurts him in this version. The falling stalactites at the start are still dangerous, but there are now fewer of them and they fall more slowly in this version. In the NES version, Bart is required to run a certain distance to push a stalagmite that was blocking the way at the end; in this version, Bart can simply touch it with the running button pressed and turn around, causing the stalagmite to move by itself.
In the Frozen River stage from the NES version, Bart was able to obtain ammo from Lisa in order to destroy a nearby igloo and obtain the collectible item. However, in this port, Bart can obtain ammo from Lisa for seemingly no reason, since this is not usable anywhere in this stage. The igloo is now indestructible, and the item is found above it instead. The seagull enemies in this stage are missing.
The Soundstage 3 (the latest stage before the final boss Eric Von Burns) from Hollywood is entirely missing. In the NES version, when the player finishes the Soundstage 2, they go directly to the Soundstage 3; in this version, the player goes back to the stage map after the Soundstage 2.
Unused Enemies#
The seagull enemies found in the NES version are absent, but its sprites are loaded.
