The Lost Vikings (SNES)

One of Blizzard's first original, and most fondly remembered titles, a puzzle-platformer where you must guide three Vikings with unique abilities to the end of the level.

Unused Text#

WHERE ARE WE? KANSAS?

Unused in both the final and the proto. Appears at the very start of all the text in the ROM. It seems like a placeholder for something and is similar to the banter at the start of Level 26 (start of the "Silly" level set) in the final.

GAME OVER

While it is possible to get a Game Over by selecting "no" when prompted to "Try Again?", the game never displays it using the internal ASCII font.

Regional Differences#

To do:
Screenshots.

  • The copyright splash screens were updated.

English

Japanese

The title was changed to something appropriately silly for the Japanese release.

  • Title screen and in-game font for western alphanumeric characters is different.
  • The number of players is represented by "1" and "2" instead of "ONE" and "TWO".
  • The credits, while in English, do not include the Baleog clone's "WATCH FOR THE LOST VIKINGS II". Also, the "The End" graphic has a horrible palette error because of this, loading the Baleog clone's palette instead of the proper palette.

Passwords#

The vowels were restored in the Japanese version, and the numbers excised. For the most part the passwords are the same, but ones that used numerals have obviously been changed.

Level Skip#

The Japanese version also has a level skip function, enabled by entering MOMY as a password, then pressing A + B + X + Y during gameplay. The international version does not seem to have an equivalent password, however the level skip can still be enabled by setting RAM address 7E0202 to a nonzero value (e.g. Pro Action Replay code 7E020201).
