This is a sub-page of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team.

Logos#

South Korea (Blue Rescue Team)

The Nintendo logo displayed during the startup is blue in the Japanese versions, red in the US and the European versions, and black in the Korean version. This is true for both Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, although only the latter was released in South Korea.

The Korean version of Blue Rescue Team does not include the URL below the Chunsoft logo. This was likely done due to its 2007 release rather than due to localization practices, as the then-upcoming Japanese release of Explorers of Time and Darkness would similarly drop the URL from the logo.

  • The logo in the Japanese version has a different style compared to the other versions.
  • As in several other games, "PUSH START" in the Japanese version is changed to "PRESS START" in the US and European versions.
  • The subtitle in the European version has a different and smaller font compared to the US subtitle.
  • The logo is slightly redone in the European version to make the trademark sign more noticeable and make it easier to change it for the different languages available.
  • The sky in the US version more closely matches the sky in Blue Rescue Team:

Also note that the lower part of the sea has a unique graphic that normally remains unseen.

The differences are the same as for Red Rescue Team, except for the following:

  • The logo in the Korean version, which was released only as Blue Rescue Team, is the only one with a similar style to the Japanese one.
  • All of the title screens use the same background.

Red Rescue Team (all versions)

Blue Rescue Team (Japan/Taiwan)

Blue Rescue Team (International)

In only the Japanese version of Blue Rescue Team, the main menu box is positioned slightly lower compared to the international releases. This is probably because the developers initially forgot to adjust its positioning when porting from the GBA, as in fact it matches the positioning of all Red Rescue Team versions.

Version Exclusivity#

In most regional versions, a small selection of Pokémon appear only in Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team respectively. It is however possible to get the opposite version's exclusive Pokémon to appear where they normally would if the player finishes a job featuring the target version-exclusive Pokémon as a client through Wonder Mail shared by another player.

As Red Rescue Team did not release in South Korea, the region's version of Blue Rescue Team instead has all Pokémon available naturally.

Recruited Pokémon List#

Japan/Taiwan, South Korea

International

The list of recruited Pokémon shows the individual Pokémon's species in brackets in the Japanese and Korean versions only.

Friend Area Overworld Map#

Friend Areas in the games are sorted in regions that can be traversed on an alternate overworld map. Only in the Japanese versions the word エリア (area) is placed after the name of each region; additionally, for the hero's Team Base, the word きち (base) is placed after the team's name. The Korean version of Blue Rescue Team has similar behavior.

Password Differences#

Wonder Mail from the Japanese releases are incompatible with the Western releases, but not because of being simply region-locked like it'd be in Explorers of Sky. Instead, the Japanese version uses a completely different structure, which includes kana as possible characters, among other differences. This also extends to the Friend Rescue passwords, which due to the sheer variety in characters have the same size as Wonder Mail passwords.

Notably, Korean Blue Rescue Team uses the same structure, which means that a Friend Rescue between Western and Korean versions is possible... although the differences in font can make a mess out of the player's name.

Naming Differences#

The characters available on the name input field are different. Japan gets two extra pages for its kana, while South Korea can type only hangul, numbers, punctuation, and a few other characters. However, the most striking difference is that the European versions have a second page dedicated to all the various diacritics (with America only receiving the acute e that is used in "Pokémon").
