NHL 96 (SNES)

NHL '96 is a typical hockey game with a not at all typical hidden message.

Unused Multitap Functionality#

NHL96SNES-Multitap1.png NHL96SNES-Multitap2.png

Despite the older NHL '94 including the ability for up to five players to play using the Multitap, NHL '96 does not allow for more than two controllers by default. However, all code related to the peripheral and extended multiplayer remains in the game, seemingly working without a hitch. The Multitap is specifically detected by the game, but the code to enable the additional controllers was dummied out; this can be fixed by the following game enhancer codes:

Pro Action Replay (PAR)

Game Genie

C5759ED0
C5759F03
2D5B-57B9
⁨D75B-5729

Interestingly, the previous game NHL '95 and next game in the series NHL '97 both include similar cases of Multitap support being available in the code, but disabled in the final game.
