Godzilla: Unleashed

To do:

  • More unused voice lines/animations/attacks (see below for details)
  • Cover the prototype.

This prototype is documented on Hidden Palace.

Godzilla: Unleashed is the third Godzilla fighting game developed by Pipeworks Software, and probably the most divisive. Some love it for its huge roster of playable monsters and ambitious story mode. Others hate it for its dysfunctional motion controls, a lack of online functionality, and the aforementioned story mode being undercooked, all buried under a pile of jank as large as the big G himself. It also oddly wasn't released in Japan.

Unused Maps#

Los Angeles#

Watch on YouTubeNew_LA is an unfinished Los Angeles map. Unfortunately, there's not much to see, as it is mostly untextured and lacks buildings, so it was likely scrapped early in development. Concept art for the stage exists in the gallery. Los Angeles was scrapped because there weren't enough cities outside the United States. It was replaced by Sydney in the final game. The file was last modified on 2006 November 13 ‏‎at 4:19 PM.

Proto Level#

Watch on YouTubeProto_Level looks more like a test map, rather than a unfinished map like the other two. The file was last modified on 2006 December 2 at ‏‎2:49 PM.

60#

Watch on YouTube60 is an unfinished ocean map. It doesn't look quite right, as you can see the sky underneath the water. The file was last modified on 2007 October 2 ‏‎at 1:19 PM in the US version and 2007 November 1 ‏‎at 3:48 PM in the European version. There are no functional differences between versions, so the file was likely just recomplied. An icon for the stage exists in Shell.bdg. GU_stagethumb_60.png

Cut Survival Mode#

Watch on YouTubeA cut survival mode is still in the game's files. It's not functional though as the match doesn't start. The script is GameType_Survival.pvm.

Unused Animations#

To do:
Other monsters also have unused animations, mostly for unused attacks, some of which were actually implemented! Document them all and possibly provide GIFs as well.

Unused Godzilla 2000 Victory Animation#

Watch on YouTubeGodzilla 2000 has an unused second victory animation named Victory2. It seems monsters were planned to have multiple victory animations like Save the Earth, but it was scrapped for some reason. The animation itself is based on Godzilla 90s' rare victory animation from Save the Earth.

Unused Voice Lines#

To do:

There are more unused voice lines than just the announcer ones.

  • Unfortunately, they're not separated, so you'll need to be familiar with the game to know which lines are unused.

5_gameover

Game over.

It isn't possible to get a game over in this game's story mode, and survival mode was cut, leaving no place for this to be used.

6_get ready

Get ready to crumble.

In the previous games, this phrase is said at the start of Destruction mode, but in this game the announcer still says "Monsters, Fight!" even in the Classic Destruction mode.

14_youlose

You lose.

When you lose, either in Brawl mode or Story mode, the game simply declares the opponent the winner.

15_youwin

You win!

"Winner" is used instead.

Early/Placeholder Announcer#

These voice lines are done by a completely different guy! It seems the announcer was recast at some point, and they didn't bother having the final announcer record lines they knew wouldn't be used anyway.

2_draw

Draw.

Draws aren't possible in this game because there is no way to turn off the military. If a draw is forced to occur with hacks, the game will award the victory to the highest player number (closest to Player 4).

8_Rage

Rage!

Rage mode isn't in this game, being replaced by the new system of Critical Mass and Power Surges.

10_superx airstrike

Super Airstrike!

The Super X Airstrike from Save the Earth was apparently considered to return before being scrapped. Also the guy totally flubbed the line.

Version Number#

At the main menu, hold Up and press A. The code input area will appear. Enter 787321 as a code, and the game's version number will be displayed. Strangely, the code doesn't work in the European version.

Build Information#

The root of the data partition has a file named version.txt, which contains build information:

The version number shown when the cheat is entered is actually sourced from this text file.

Cheat Codes#

Day Select#

Create a save file in story mode if there isn't one already. At the main menu, hold Up and press A. The code input area will appear. Enter 0829xx (where xx is the number of the desired day minus 1, e.g. 06 for day 7) as a code, then select a save file in story mode to go to the chosen day.

All Power Surges Cheat#

Watch on YouTubeThe cheat code 284519 exists in the game, but wasn't ever mentioned by official sources. It's supposed to grant you all power surges in story mode, but for some reason, it automatically triggers the Tyrant ending for monsters from all factions besides Mutants.
