Batman: The Video Game (Game Boy)

Batman is a Game Boy adaptation of the 1989 movie. In this port, Batman forgets that he hates guns, and goes on a criminal killing spree. Looooove that Joker!

Sound Test#

Just a reminder, this game was made by Sunsoft

Just hold Up + Right and press Start at the title screen for the game's hidden sound test.

Level Select#

Beat the game first. Then at the title screen, start a new game, but hold Select while "PRESS START" is blinking until the title screen disappears.

Unused Sprites#

This needs some investigation. Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page. Specifically: Are there any unique spritemaps or enemy behaviors that correlate with these tiles?

At 0x00D23B in the rom is a compressed chunk of graphics for enemies seen nowhere in the game. Curiously, this is one of the earliest chunks of graphics in the ROM, coming just after the main font, Batman himself, and the title screen, while being located before every other enemy or level tileset. Given that fact, and considering some of the odd designs, it is possible that these graphics might be a remnant of an older version of the game before they settled on the Batman license.

Developer Messages#

There are a few developer messages in mixed ASCII with Shift-JIS encodings hidden in the ROM:
