This page details one or more prototype versions of WipEout Pulse (PlayStation Portable).
General Differences#
Unless specified, this concerns only the May 31 build (and a bit of August 31), as the May 4 build is even earlier.
- The cheat code to unlock everything either crashes (on PPSSPP at least) or shows a black screen until you press X and seemingly does nothing as loyalty doesn't do anything yet except showing up in the statistics (and the grids don't unlock).
- The ship select, track select, and racebox menu are completely different.
- Most of the menus and options are inaccessible for demo purpose, including the wipeout.com option.
- Main menu music is different, it's Analogue Bubblebath by Aphex Twin instead of the tracks by Switchshift (the composer of at least Pulse and HD).
- Only a few tracks are playable (in order of the track select): MOA THERMA WHITE, ARC PRIME WHITE, TALONS JUNCTION WHITE, METROPIA WHITE', MOA THERMA BLACK, DE KONSTRUCT WHITE, and TALONS JUNCTION BLACK.
- like retail, Metropia white isn't selectable in zone mode. The track work albeit clearly with a bit of polishing needed (floating weapon pad near one of the last corner and dark ships because to the shadow).
- There is probably more racetrack-related difference.
- In the May 4 build, METROPIA BLACK and DE KONSTRUCT BLACK are also available in grid mode.
- Race intro is like Pure (but choppier) instead of the narrator.
- For the first two builds, you can't exit early a Speedlap event, the option doesn't even exist yet. You must do all 10 laps or lose what you just did.
- Custom grids are called Datablast in earlier builds.
- A gamemode inaccessible to the player in the final game called AI race is playable here. This option was removed before EU retail but can be reenabled with xml editing.
- You can change the grid size to half grid in the racebox. This option was removed before EU retail and while it can be shown with xml editing, it cannot be reenabled.
Trivia#
- The .png in the presskit date back to may 5th 2007. The rest of the presskit date back to September so it's pretty close to the August 31, 2007 prototype.
