At least six different playable demos of the game were released in the early 2000s, all featured below. Furthermore, in April 2021, two full prototypes of the game were released, and a third followed in early 2024.

April 25th, 2000 buildAn early SCEA preview build from about five months prior to the final build, which appears to match the one used at E3 that year, as well as in a number of publications.
Crash Bash & Spyro DemoThe earliest known demo of Spyro 3, featuring numerous differences. Seems to have been built on or after May 25th, 2000.
July 27th, 2000 buildA SCEE preview build from about a month and a half prior to the final build, at the earliest.
Test Drive DemoThe Toys "R" Us "Test Drive" Demo, which was featured on many compilation demo discs. While much closer to the final game there are still some noticeable differences. Seems to have been built after July 27th, 2000.
Demo 3The first PAL demo, featuring the same levels as the earliest demo.
Demo 4The second PAL demo.
Crash Bash Secret DemoThe demo featured in Crash Bash, only accessible with a certain cheat code. Two versions of this demo exist; the NTSC version and the PAL version, which differ only very slightly.
September 4th, 2000 buildA late SCEE review build dated around ten days prior to the final build. Lots of music differences!
