This is a sub-page of Proto:Spyro: Year of the Dragon/September 4th, 2000 build.
In a similar manner to other pre-release builds, the cheat codes in this version are a mix of debug-style cheats absent from the final, normal cheat codes newly added in Spyro 3, and leftover cheat codes from Spyro 2 still using their earlier code.
Cheat Codes#
Permanent Invincibility#
The first cheat code is for permanent invincibility, presumably in the game for QA reasons. This cheat code is not present in the final game, and was not present in Spyro 2 either.
Circle, Circle, Circle, Circle, X
Max Gem and Egg Totals#
The code sets the total gem and egg counts, as well as the number of gems and eggs per level, to their maxima. All levels are also marked as visited.
The egg in Sorceress's Lair is marked as collected by this cheat, resulting in all instances of Moneybags being disabled (aside from any in the level the player is currently in), aside from his final encounter in Midnight Mountain Home. Although the number of collected gems per level is maxed out by the cheat, the actual in-game gems are not marked as collected, and so the player can continue to collect gems after using the cheat.
The eggs given to the player per level equals the amount the Atlas claims each level has. For Midnight Mountain Home, this is 5 eggs instead of 6, due to the presence of the "secret" egg from Moneybags. Similarly, 6 eggs from Super Bonus Round are given to the player, as all pre-release builds have an Atlas total of 6 eggs instead of 1. The 154 eggs the player ends up with displays as 150, due to a cap in the value the HUD displays. Entering this cheat code also seems to be the only way to make the "Super Bogus Worlds" option on the Atlas contents page selectable.
This cheat was likely included for the sake of QAing and debugging the game, and can be activated by inputting the following code at the pause menu:
Square, Square, Square, Square, Circle
This cheat code is not present in the final game, nor was it present in the final version of Spyro 2. It was present in non-final builds of Spyro 2, however.
Dialogue Test#
The dialogue test mode matches the code used in the final:
Square, Square, Circle, Circle, Square, Square, Circle, Circle
Credits#
The player may warp to the credits using the following cheat code - in fact, this is the only way to access the credits in this version.
Version |
Code |
|---|---|
Sep 04 |
Square, Circle, Square, Circle, Square, Circle, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right |
Sep 14 Final |
Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Square, Circle, Square, Circle, Square, Circle |
This cheat code is identical to its Spyro 2 code.
When the credits finish, the text that appears on-screen during the loading appears, briefly, to be corrupted. The final game seems to fix this by stopping the text from appearing entirely.
Permanent Superflame#
This cheat code enables the permanent superflame powerup the player would receive at the end of Spyro 2.
R1, R2, L1, L2, R1, R2, L1, L2, Circle
As the superflame fireball moby is only present in levels where superflame was intended to be used in Spyro 3, activating the cheat and flaming in a level or sublevel without superflame access will result in the game crashing.
This cheat code is not present in the final game, nor was it present in Spyro 2.
Level Warp#
The level and cutscene warp code is present in this version, and is entered identically to the final.
There are a nuber of ways in which the cheat functions differently to the final:
- Unlike the final, this cheat will work from the very beginning of the game, rather than requiring that you beat Bugbot Factory first.
- Unlike later builds, the number "9" cannot be entered into the level ID using the L1 button. This is usually only used in two codes - for the cutscenes with IDs 69 ("Deja Vu?") and 79 ("A Duplicitous, Larcenous Ursine").
- Only levels may be warped to using this cheat code - cutscenes cannot be warped to, and thus may not be replayed in this version.
- In later builds, the cheat code checks if the entered ID is a level or a cutscene, and temporarily stores the current level ID if it's the latter (so that it isn't lost when warping to the cutscene). In this build, it checks if it's a level ID, and is not supposed to work otherwise.
- Attempting to warp to a level with ID 60 or above in this build (e.g. a cutscene) will instead send the player to the title screen. This may not be intended and could be due to poor level ID validation.
- Warping to Super Bonus Round shows the Sparx Worlds loading screen instead of the Midnight Mountain Worlds loading screen.
- In later builds, warping out of a Sparx level into any of the homeworlds will place Spyro at the initial spawn point for that level. In this version, warping out of any Sparx level into any homeworld places Spyro at the Sparx sign instead.
The cheat is entered as follows:
Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Square, ?, ?
The last two button presses represent the ID of the level one wishes to travel to - simply concatenate the number corresponding with the first button to the second button to get the level ID:

X |

Square |

Colour Change#
The colour change cheats still use their codes from Spyro 2, which do not match the final codes:

99 Lives#

R2, L2, R2, L2, Up, Up, Up, Up, Circle
Treasure Finder#
The treasure finder cheat is not yet implemented in this build, though the ability is and is obtained in the usual way.
