This is a sub-page of Proto:Splatoon 2/March 28, 2017.
General Differences to the Final Game#
- Rival Octolings use their outfits from Splatoon, as their new outfits aren't finished in this build. Additionally, the Elite Rival Octolings do not have any headgear on, leaving their eyes visible.

- The textures for most of the Octarians are much higher quality, generally being around twice the resolution. Though there are some differences, the Rival Octoling hair for example, lacks the region used to color their eyebrows, and the Elite Rival Octoling hair textures are noticeably darker compared to the final game.

Changed Maps#
|
|
To do: |
Octoling Strike#
While relatively similar to the final game, the Rival Octolings will speak upon entering certain areas of the map. The dialog is not translated in this build. The icon for the Octoling's dialog does end up unused in the final game.
Octoling's Ahoy#
Watch on YouTubeThis level is completely unfinished in this build, lacking any sort of objectives, dialog, or enemies. The lack of any end goal leaves this level completely unbeatable.
Octoling Workout#
Watch on YouTubeSame case as Octoling's Ahoy. The lack of any end goal leaves this level completely unbeatable.
Bomb Rush Blush#
Watch on YouTubeThis level crashes in this build due to what appears to be an error the game runs into while initializing the dynamic joints on Callie's hair. If you place this build's assets into the testfire, it will load without crashing; however, there isn't much that can be done inside it, due to the testfire expecting a different map setup. The crashing, however, can be circumvented at the cost of Callie's dynamic hair physics, using the following IPSwitch code.

Once this patch has been activated, the level will load in, and many differences can be seen.
- There is very little to no ambience.
- None of the screens in the background show anything.
- The screen behind Callie is completely red and lacks any animation.
- During the last phase, DJ Octavio can very easily softlock, hitting him or his attacks damaging you will softlock him, he can also randomly softlock even when you're on the inkrails.
- There seems to be some sort of coding error with the Rainmaker's bullets, making the game crash upon letting go of ZR. This makes the boss impossible to beat through any normal means.
- Upon running out of lives, the game will send you back to the plaza, marking the mission as complete, and the after-boss Inkopolis News segment will play, though it crashes upon loading into the Staff Roll, due to issues mentioned below.
Staff Roll#
Watch on YouTubeThis level crashes in this build due to what appears to be an error the game runs into while initializing its 'Bullet Manager'. If you place this build's assets into the testfire, it will load without crashing; however, there isn't much that can be done inside it, due to the testfire expecting a different map setup. The crashing, however, can be circumvented at the cost of being able to shoot any bullets, as well as not being able to load into most other maps in the game, using the following IPSwitch code.

Changed Graphics#
Callie News Photo#
Callie's news photo is much simpler in this build. The final game uses two images, one during the first Inkopolis News segment, and one used at news segment after completing Octo Canyon. However, this build simply uses one image, which features an unfiltered render of Callie.

Rival Octoling Gear#
As mentioned above, the new set of gear for the Rival Octoling's is not finished in this build and the gear from Splatoon is used instead. However, the new gear can be equipped through the DbgSetting menu. Notably, the shades for the regular Octoling enemy clip into the head, and overall have simpler texturing. The boots are much simpler compared to their final counterparts, lacking the metal buckles seen in the final version. The shades for the Elite Octoling enemy are completely unfinished, using the model of the Octoleet Goggles with the text "NEW" added at the center.

Brainwashed Callie (pre-reveal)#
She is much more visible in this build's version of the icon, which was likely changed in the final to make her identity before being revealed a little less obvious.
