Maps#

To do:

  • Get NPC filename
  • Figure out the video section, some of the smaller maps are probably better off as images.

Despite being a simple demo, there's 60 maps buried in the game! All but 3 or so can be accessed through the debugger, though you may have issues if you attempt to access them without backing out to Balsamo or Shop Test. Most of these maps use a generic NPC file[], and depending on the map may also use the file X5SAMPLE.BIN, complete with unique dialogue (the file exists in the final but most of the lines were removed).

Notes

SHOP_T 名テスト

(Shop Test)

SF3SegakoreShopTest.mp4

Contains a priest and two shopkeepers, the Items deal (who only sells Herbs and Antidotes), and a Weapons Dealer that crashes the game.

BATTLE_T 戦闘テスト

N/A

N/A

The name suggests this should be Battle 99, but it's Dwarf's Hill. Selecting it from the Scene menu doesn't load the cutscenes for whatever reason.

HONJIN_T 本凍

N/A

N/A

HQ Test, this appears to just be Balsamo HQ. As is there's nothing inside it.

(Measurement Test)

SF3SegakoreMeasureTest.mp4

Note the Soldier standing in the middle, he's in every map that loads a generic NPC file, but its function is unknown. Talking to him either does nothing or hard crashes the game depending on the map.

Opening Movie

N/A

The Opening Movie.

N/A

Title Screen

Sleepy Wise Man

SF3DreamSK.mp4

Missing graphics but still somewhat functional, it'll even load saves from the final game, though it may crash depending on what you load. You can't leave this menu without resetting.

Saraband Bridge

Watch on YouTube

Very unfinished. The enemy layout is filled with Bats, Mask Monks and Saraband Guards, but your movement is restricted to 0 squares (meaning the only way you could hit anything is with debug) and the Monks cannot actually take damage.

Slightly altered name. It's likely this wasn't the original map, as the enemies are mostly placed out of bounds.

Dwarf's Valley

It's the normal Dwarf Valley, suggesting the "Beta" was made just for show.

Dwarf's Hill

On Roof of Train

Appears to be the Train Battle, selecting it hangs the game.

Suspension Bridge

This "Beta Dwarf Valley" as it is often called, even at this early stage however, it seems as if it was always intended as the end of Chapter 3 map.

Town of Balsamo

Balsalmo Indoors 1

Balsalmo Indoors 2

Balsalmo Indoors 4

Balsalmo Indoors 5

Balsalmo Indoors 6

Balsalmo Indoors 7

Balsalmo Indoors 8

Balsalmo Indoors 9

BAL_CHR バルサモ教会

Balsamo Church

N/A

フィールド# or Field# are placeholder names, this however is the unused FIELD.MPD from the final game!

N/A

X5BTL110.BIN mentions this location, but it's nowhere to be found in-game.

Balsamo East Plains

Contains one of the only functional cutscenes in the game, and it is early. Most of the characters in it use placeholder sprites.

Dwarf Valley

This is the only exception to that.

Dwarf Valley

North Plain Railroad

Border S W Plains

The Quonos to Vagabond map. Doesn't appear to be any different from the final.

Thief's Map 1

Collision exists, but is incredibly busted. One of the very few unused maps to contain functional exits but the game crashes if they're used.

Thief's Map 2

Quonos Mansion

Quonos Mansion 2nd Floor

Town of Railhead

Railhead Station

More or less same as the final, but with an animation test for the trains, featuring early train models.

Railhead Indoor 1

Railhead Indoor 2

Interesting to note that the 2nd floor entrance in the bar was blocked off even at such an early point. Though the unused room did have work done on it between here and the final.

1(Segale Valley Train 1)

The map for BTL110. Moving to where the start of the battle would be hangs the game, which is likely related to what causes BTL110 to crash.

3(Segale Valley Train 3)

One of the removed maps! It's an birdseye view of the train, but most interesting is the end car, which was completely removed from the final!

N/A

One of multiple maps called "Saraband", translation is needed for the parenthesis.

Saraband Center

Saraband Republican District.

Early Flagard, including a mansion not seen in the final game.

FSS Dwarf Valley

The simplified Border Crossing/Dwarf Valley Beta map.

Fort

The same Fort map buried in the final game, but with a working windmill.

Inside Fort

The palette is different, but is otherwise the same.

Picture Above Ground

The Palm trees use the correct textures.

N/A

This is MGMA00.MPD buried in the final game, the only difference is the geometry is fully working, whereas the final was slightly broken looking.

Tree

Same as the one present in final.

Wave

Same as final, sans broken textures.

The top of Lookover Tower in the final.

MUTES 持最再

N/A

The prototype Barrand shown off on the game's website!

SHOP_5 ワイン村

N/A

Wine Village. Shares a vague resemblance with Quonos village.

CHU 掘と船

N/A

Completely unused map, unlike anything from the final game. Art style here is far more cartoonish, similar to the Genesis games. There's a few extra details, such as a couple of boats that sail through occasionally.

N/A

Tent Village, appears to be an extremely early version of Vagabond. As is the map appears to be slightly broken, you're placed far away from the buildings, which for whatever reason are in a corner of the map and is partially out of bounds.

N/A

Literally "Propeller". This map is the Early Maya Village that was shown off in promotional material!

N/A

The indoor maps for Propeller.

N/A

What would eventually become Ishahacut/Gabriel's house.

Early Anafect Village

SF3Funain.mp4

Anafect indoors, only a single room is finished by this point.

An incredibly early version of Saraband that was shown off in promotional material.

MUCHU 教会

MUBAR 存酒場

MUBAR.MPD

Possibly an early version of Saraband's bar, going by the name. Also present in the final, albeit in a more broken state.

ROOM_1 援用

N/A

SF3Room1.mp4

The Room shown off on the back of the US box art. Collision is fairly sloppy, it was likely only made for promotional purposes.

The town of Aspia. The town is incredibly different to the final, most notably is the lack of a Moat (where the final level of the game takes place), and a model of the castle is present.

N/A

This seems to be the bottom floor of tree. Though it bears a resemblance to Stump Village, that may not be the case.

N/A

An unusually modern looking map, much more so than anything in the original game. It also appears to be the original end point of Railhead's train, but where this is exactly is unknown.

MONT00.MPD

Not in Final

N/A

A map leftover from an even earlier version of the game. File swapping reveals nothing, as the map crashes attempting to load it.

SHIP2.MPD

SHIP2.MPD

N/A

Same as above. Amusingly this file is only a few hours earlier than the one present in the final.

BTL04.MPD

BTL04.MPD

N/A

Hasn't been tested. Possibly BTL04A.MPD instead.
