This is a sub-page of Proto:Gran Turismo 2/July 29, 1999 Demo Builds.
This page documents data associated with cars in the July 29 builds of GT2, highlighting differences from the final game. Entries for 418 cars are defined in the .carinfo file of the European version, while its North American counterpart adds one more to the pack: the Nissan Pulsar VZ-R N1 (n2p1n).

A number of car models and texture sets were removed by the time the game was released in Japan. The "early version" cars are duplicates of other cars in the demo but with unique models, textures, and different codenames.

As well as cars, a non-car model (internally named t000n) exists in addition to the arcade loading background that is still in the final; it is possible it was an earlier version of it. It revolves much faster than any cars.

The racing modification of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V RS '98 was originally the primary Mitsubishi Ralliart WRC livery from that year's WRC season, with the GSR counterpart also having the unused Winfield livery. These were both spun off as their own cars, with both road cars receiving Puma Super Taikyu liveries instead starting from the Euro Demo builds.

The Nissan Pulsar VZ-R N1 '97 was to feature the optional VZ-R logo branding on the side of the car. That side texture were originally broken in the July and August demos, as well its brake lights and blanked out wheels, but the Test Drive demo fixed those while adding a new issue where the front bumper is completely white on the night version of the car. In the final game, a plain white or black scheme without those side decals was used instead.

The racing modification for the Toyota Altezza, also serving as placeholder race car body starting from the August demo build, was originally the Netz Castrol Super Taikyu livery, which was changed to be based on the Espelir Gialla livery instead (note the website features the 2000 car, however the same livery was also used in the 1999 season). The Tom's 280T retained this livery, but did make a change to it where the Enkei logos on the front now have shading and no longer mirrored on the right-hand side. The "Castrol Mugen Accord" in the final game does still have the demo version of the racing Altezza, however.
It is also worth noting that in the July demos (where it did not yet take the role of placeholder race car body), there are logos for Zent, a pachinko chain, that were removed from subsequent builds. The Zent logos were also edited out from the 1999 Toyota GT-One (based on the car that participated in the 1999 Le Mans Fuji 1000 km race, where it had such logos) in the final build of the game (the car had no textures yet in the demos), but not from the Toyota Castrol Tom's Supra GT (JGTC) '99. (While later games in the series refrained from including cars with Zent primary sponsorship, the 2000 version of the Castrol Supra, as well as the Toyota TS030 Hybrid '12, does have Zent logos on them, however.)
