There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.

A very early build of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, when it just started becoming a standalone title rather than being a Counter-Strike: Source port for consoles.

General Differences#

  • Achievements are non-functional, as the game cannot connect to Steam.
  • The title screen is mostly identical to Counter-Strike: Source, save for the Video Stress Test option being removed. Despite this, its associated map is still present in the game files.
  • There is a new Single Player button added, however, it's mostly a fancy console-centric GUI for the "Create Server" menu. This menu only works properly in 4:3 resolutions, i.e. 1280x1024.

  • The team and player model selection menus are different.
  • The buy menu uses the same radial design as the final game, albeit with different graphics. They can still be found in the final game's files, unused.

Cut Maps#

cc_prototype#

A map that was first found in the 2023 Source Developer Asset Repository leak for Counter-Strike: Source.

de_club#

A Demolition mode map that is set in and around the jazz club from the Left 4 Dead 2 campaign The Parish's fourth chapter. Here, the bombsite is located in the club itself.

This map, as well as many other maps in this build, have missing textures and models which come from Left 4 Dead 2. This can be fixed by importing the left4dead2 and l4dld folders from the March 2011 build.

de_generator#

A cut Demolition map based on the first map of the campaign Death Toll from Left 4 Dead, specifically the industrial building at the end of the chapter.

de_lighthouse#

Another cut Demolition map, this time based on the Lighthouse survival mode map from Left 4 Dead.

de_depot#

de_depot is a Demolition map based on Death Toll's third chapter. Terrorists spawn in a guard tower with breakable railings, while CTs spawn in a shack containing wooden boxes.

de_docks#

de_docks is a tiny Demolition map based on the first map of the Parish campaign in Left 4 Dead 2. The bombsite is based on Virgil's boat.

de_freight#

de_freight is a Demolition map based on Blood Harvest's second chapter.

de_piranesi#

de_piranesi, a classic map dating back to Counter-Strike 1.5 (2002), was seemingly set to return in Global Offensive. It's clear that the map had plenty of work done for the game as it has seen great visual enhancement from it's previous CS: Source counterpart. The map ultimately wouldn't appear in Global Offensive in any official capacity, though remnants can be found.

de_quarter#

de_quarter is a Demolition map that, like Club, appears to be based on the fourth chapter of The Parish from Left 4 Dead 2. The bombsite target is a tank trailer hooked to a semi-truck.

de_test_character#

A version of the de_dust included in this build, seemingly only made to test a very, very early model for the SEALs.

de_vostok#

de_vostok is a HD remake of the Counter-Strike: Condition Zero map of the same name, with minimal layout changes. The Terrorists now spawn behind a police station, which had just gone through a shootout between said terrorists and the local police, while the CTs spawn behind a church. Players can get outside of the map by jumping on top of the APC.

Near the entrance to Bombsite A (which is now bombsite B), there's a snowy Lada car with its headlights turned on, possibly meant to subtly guide players towards the bombsite. There is also a barricaded room, which can be entered by breaking some wooden boards.

devtest#

devtest is simply CS: Source's de_dust, possibly ported to test things.

es_crash#

Another map that was first found in the 2023 Source Developer Asset Repository leak.

ht_cbble#

Yet another 2023 Source Developer Asset Repository leak map.

Map Differences#

Assault#

cs_assault is the same as in Counter-Strike: Source.

Militia#

cs_militia has a couple of notable differences compared to its previous iteration:

  • The weather was changed from sunshine to rain, and most of the broad-leaved trees were replaced with coniferous ones. Despite this, the leaves on the ground weren't changed.
  • The 3D skybox terrain is normally invisible, but its geometry is still present.
  • The bar inside of the house was replaced by some beer kegs and a few tables with blueprints of the place on them, albeit they are missing their textures.
  • The garage doors also received new models, but without their textures.

Italy#

Office#

Aztec#

Bank#

An early version of de_bank is present in this build, known as de_burger, as it re-uses geometry from the Burger Tank in the Left 4 Dead 2 campaign Hard Rain.

Dust#

Dust 2#

Inferno#

de_inferno is the same as in Counter-Strike: Source.

Lake#

An early version of de_lake is present, although it is mostly identical to the Left 4 Dead map it is based on, Death Toll's finale. The only notable difference is that the map now takes place during the evening instead of at night.

Nuke#

Train#

Vertigo#

Player Model Differences#

Phoenix Connection#

The Phoenix Connection uses a similar design to the Counter-Strike: Source iteration, with pouches on the vest. Interestingly, the model uses almost the same UV map as the GIGN's texture, itself reusing the SEAL's UV maps.

GSG-9#

The GSG-9 uses a similar design to the final game, but with teal fatigues instead of blue, as well as wearing glasses and a crotch pad.

SAS#

The SAS has visible eyes, a different gas mask, and even wears a helmet. Oddly enough, the model is broken in-game, despite using the same animations as the other "default" Counter-Strike: Source player models.

Yakuza#

The cut Yakuza player model is present in this build, and can be selected from the playermodel selection menu, albeit they don't have a name or description. The animations are broken.

Unused Models#

player\CT_TEAMSCREEN#

A model used specifically to create the image used for the CTs in the team selection menu. All of them are shown using MP5s here, while the CTs in said image use different weapons each.

Unused Model

player\ct_GIGN_screenshotPoser#

A special model for the GIGN, made to be used in promotional material.

player\t_phoenix_screenshotPoser#

A special model for the Phoenix Connection, made for the same purpose as the above model. This particular model was used to make the terrorist bots' icon in Counter-Strike: Source.
