koth_badwater#

TeamFortress2-koth_badwater.png

A variant of the Payload map Badwater Basin, consisting of a slice of BLU's first spawn and the surrounding checkpoint area mirrored to create a King of the Hill map, with the control point resting at the top of the central hill beneath a large radio tower.

The map contains a few unique additions to better suit the game mode, including a staircase in front of both team's spawns to reach the high ground and various props placed around the map to act as cover. Interestingly uses Control Point logic rather than standard KOTH logic, indicating that this map likely predated KOTH's formal introduction as a game mode.

koth_dam#

TF2_Koth_Dam.png

A small scrapped KOTH map set in a hydroelectric plant. While the map is rather detailed, most of its textures use default dev textures.

The layout of this map is incredibly similar to the final point areas of the Control Point map Powerhouse (and therefore its earlier iteration cp_staredown as well), sharing much of the same geometry, props, and general design. The control point is set in the center of an area enclosed by walls, with an upper platform lined by generators overlooking it, and a small hallway acting as a side route on the opposite side. Teams spawn on the far ends of the map, with a spawn exit that leads to a raised platform with a small windowed building, an exit with a dropdown into a water pool, and a central exit between the two that leads either way.

Some of the ideas seen in koth_dam carried over as far as development of cp_staredown, such as the far back spawn rooms, but most of them were fully reworked or removed by the time of Powerhouse's full release. Remnants of these can still be seen in current day Powerhouse, out of bounds and mostly as unused, cut down geometry.

koth_granary#

TF2_Koth_Granary.png

A King of the Hill version of arena_granary. It seems as though Valve planned to port every Arena Mode map to King of the Hill, but only a select few were actually properly ported. Might have been cut because three versions of one map is a bit overkill (looking at you Sawmill).
