Wonder Boy in Monster Land is a Master System port of the similarly titled Sega/Westone arcade game Wonder Boy: Monster Land and the first version of the game released internationally. A bit harder than its coin-op original, due to the lack of a continue feature, but players able to persevere through the added challenge will experience an all new stage made exclusively for this version. This port was released in Japan under the title of Super Wonder Boy: Monster World, making it the first game in the series released under the Monster World spinoff brand.

While the Japanese-only arcade version was called Wonder Boy: Monster Land, the console port had the game's title changed to Super Wonder Boy: Monster World. This was presumably due to the existence of a similar titled game for the Super Cassette Vision titled Waiwai Monsterland.
Because Waiwai Monsterland was released only in Japan, this was not an issue for the rest of the world, where the game was allowed to keep its original Monster Land title.
