Turrican (Commodore 64)

At the turn from the 1980s to the 1990s, Manfred Trenz brought eight-way scrolling run-'n-gunning and Metroid-inspired exploration to the Commodore 64 as Turrican, a very well-regarded game among fans of the platform.

More screens/comparisons

The North American release by Innerprise saw significant graphical changes, likely to account for going from the 50Hz PAL hardware to the 60Hz NTSC hardware. Basically, all background tiles use one palette per level, and any single-width tiles are now double-width.
