Romancing SaGa (SNES)

This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

The fourth game in the SaGa series and the first to be released for the Super Famicom.

To do:
More unused text (the unused text is under "未使用台詞" for that page).

  • Through my own independent research I've found some unused enemy sprites:
    • A knight on horseback whom can wield either a sword or a jousting lance.
    • A humanoid with what appears to be the head of some mammal.
    • A treasure chest containing either a fleshy head or creeping slime.
  • Additionally, I've found some unused enemy sprite overlay tiles:
    • A version of the duckwalking soldier with a horned helmet.
    • A version of the "Twin Tail" enemy with only one tail.
  • And here's one that's a combination of both, the sprite that's used as the base for the "Chimera" and "Sphinx" enemies is a lion that never gets seen unmodified, plus two sets of sprite overlay tiles that turn it into a weird-headed thing and a griffin, respectively.
  • Unused in-battle party member sprites that seem to depict Shirach, Saruin's younger sister. (What is it with Saruin and there being unused party sprites of his siblings?)
    • The palettes seen for unused party members 2, 3, 5, and 6 are actually incorrect, the sprites' palettes are stored in the same order as the party members themselves (Albert, Hawke, Barbara, etc.), so just palettizing them in order reveals the intended colors.
  • This site has a lot of detailed information on the inner workings of Romancing Saga 1 and its unused content. It's all in Japanese, though. so it might be a bit unclear.

Six full, unused sets of playable character sprites appear along with the other playable characters in the game's data. Notably, most of these battle sprites have matching field sprite sets that are used, though not for any recruitable characters.

Interestingly, the leftmost character above appears to be Death, main antagonist Saruin's brother and optional boss in the final game.
