Game Graphics#

Pokémon Square In The Intro Sequence#

The Pokémon Square area in the intro sequence is actually a flat image, zoomed in to make it look like it's an area. Due to the zoom in, most of the area goes unseen.

Game Textures#

Early Textures#

Various Pokémon have blank eye textures in their low-poly model, but some of them have early looking textures in the bottom right corner.

Graveler#

Graveler has an early happy eye texture in its eye textures.

Eevee#

Eevee has an early neutral mouth texture in its mouth textures.

Luvdisc#

Luvdisc has an early eye texture in its eye textures. That being leftover from Super Mystery Dungeon.

Unused Jaw Mouth Texture#

Most high-poly Pokémon models have textures for an inside of a mouth in their body textures. Certain species, however, use separate meshes with a separate texture for their mouths, meaning these specific textures are never seen in-game. It is likely possible that in one point during development, these Pokémon would have a jaw for their mouth.

If you take a look at the model's U/V mapping, none of the mapping will be ever used for the mouth part on the body texture.

U/V Mapping

Upon further inspection, many of the body textures (Likely the models too) are actually edited and improved versions of the ones used in Pokémon Duel but with the eye textures separated from them, and resized. In which you can see some of the unused textures and some parts of the Duel texture, can clearly be seen in DX's texture here.

Unused Tongue Texture#

Like the previous high-poly models, these also have unused textures but this time for a tongue. Certain species, however, use separate meshes with a separate texture for their mouths, meaning these specific textures are never seen in-game.

Super Mystery Dungeon Mouth Textures#

Certain high-poly Pokémon models have two extra mouth textures (on the bottom row, right side) leftover from Super Mystery Dungeon. These two mouth textures can also be found in the low-poly model.

Dugtrio's High-Poly Model eye textures#

Dugtrio's High-Poly model's eye texture contains other eye expressions, but the angry eye texture only gets used in-game.
